Düsseldorf, the Science of Absence has officially arrived.

We’ve touched down back in Scotland after three productive days at ProWein. While the halls of the Messe were quieter this year, the quality of dialogue at Stand B44 was exceptional.

As the “Laboratory” wing of The Netherfield, we were thrilled to see Black Lake hold its own spotlight. The feedback from international distributors and high-end trade partners was definitive:
✨ The Design: The visual presence and high-end aesthetic (thank you again ) became a true conversation starter.
✨ The Liquid: Our sub-zero frost-filtration resonated with those seeking molecular purity and a weightless, silky-smooth profile.

It was a proud moment to see our vision for a “resolved spirit” validated on the global stage alongside our Archive whiskies.

We are back at the Atelier now, moving straight from the exhibition floor to the packing table as we prepare the first batch of orders and our upcoming virtual tasting sets.

Omission as an Art Form.

Most spirits are defined by what is added. Black Lake is defined by what is taken away.

Inspired by our Siberian heritage and engineered at the Netherfield Spirits Atelier in the Scottish Lowlands, Black Lake is the result of the "Science of Absence." We treat vodka as a structural challenge, utilising intensive sub-zero frost-filtration to strip away sensory "noise" until only the definitive signal remains.

Through a calculated dual-filtration sequence – incorporating thermal shock and 18th-century charcoal refinement – we achieve what we call the "Silence of the Frost." This is a spirit of weightless clarity, silky neutrality, and meticulous precision.

Silence is a definitive signal

The first features for Black Lake are starting to appear. Steve Rush from has just featured our new "Laboratory" launch, and his perspective on the liquid really resonates with what we've been building behind the scenes.

Steve describes the 'Silence of the Frost' as an exercise in 'weightless smoothness and meticulous precision' – exactly the texture we worked so hard to achieve through our frost-filtration process.
