ad A lovely evening last night at the Sunderland restaurant week preview (running 5-13 September), sampling some of the fab options along the Roker seafront. We had a food crawl enjoying a course at each venue, what a concept😋

First up, starters at - I'd never even heard of here before, its a Mediterranean restaurant tucked away in the Roker marina. Theres a massive range on the menu, they have some great seafood dishes but plenty of meat and veggie dishes too! We sampled; halloumi fajitas, lasagne bites, pork and feta meatballs, tomato bruschetta, prawn bruschetta, and salt and chilli calamari. Honestly I was full at the first stop! I was really impressed with the food here and would definitely return- stand outs were the salt and chilli calmari (not rubbery at all with excellent seasoning) and the lasagne bites, I bloody love lasagne so making it into a bite is an excellent idea.

Next we were off to .coffee for mains! This overlooks the seafront and I'd been meaning to try for a while. They offer fresh woodfired pizzas with loads of flavours available and plenty of dips too, a must for me. I loved the confit garlic and tomato pizza bread, but they were all lush! We also got to try their new loaded fries menu, the pulled pork fries were INSANE, I'll be returning just for these and a spritz!

Finally for dessert we visited the Roker Hotel where we enjoyed a fab range of desserts afternoon tea style, if you like a fruit based dessert then you need to try here! A lovely setting!

It was lush trying 3 new places, restaurant week is the perfect time to do so! Visit the Sunderland bid website to check out all of the menus and download your voucher, theres over 50 restaurants taking place in the city centre and beyond. I'd also recommend trying Efnes, Babajis, Vitos, Wildfire and Port of Call if you want any more inspo🫶

ad An excellent addition to South Shields, Craft & Crumb has recently opened for all occasions- morning coffee catch ups, breakfast sandwiches, evening cocktails and delicious sandos!

We ordered;
☕️Banana bread iced coffee
🥪Tokyo fried sando
🥪Triple threat sando
🥂Sarti spritz
🍷Pinot
🧀Loaded crisps

The sandwiches were absolutely delicious!! I got the chicken katsu and it was so good on the softest bread. They are absolutely massive portions, and can get messy so grab plenty of napkins. The drinks selection is huge, soo many coffee, matcha, soft drinks and wines available. Its really somewhere you can go day or night as they are now starting live music and pizza on weekends! I'd definitely return here, make sure you order a spritz with your sandwich as that was the best sarti spritz I've had😍

Would recommend, would return🫶

ad I love a Sunday mooch of the quayside market along with some tasty food, there are soo many stalls to try!

This Sunday we tried Garage Turkish Gozleme a local family run business with traditional Turkish recipes. I really like Turkish food but had never had Gozleme before - its a savory flatbread which is filled folded, covered in butter and toasted on the hot griddle.

You could choose beef mince, chicken, feta and spinach or spicy potato. Me and my friend got the chicken and the beef, I preferred the beef and she preferred the chicken so definitely worth trying both! The food was delicious, I definitely recommend trying here one Sunday! You can get a meal deal to include baklava and a drink for £13. It didn't feel too greasy but also loved the cheese on mine.

I can't wait to try Gozleme when I visit Turkey next year, but for now theres the Quayside on a Sunday!

An appreciation post for the excellent Newcastle food scene (and the coast), soo many excellent spots from street food, asian bottomless brunches, Greek restaurants, and more, its sooo diverse🫶

Tried a new Chinese at the weekend, sometimes risky but this was definitely worth it! Seaburn Dene not far from Seaburn metro, it does collection and deliveries.

We ordered 2 munchie boxes (£14.90 for the 10 inch salt and pepper box and £17.90 for chicken balls, egg fried rice, salt and chilli chips, wings, salt and chilli chicken, spare ribs, veggie spring rolls and curry sauce) for the 12 inch much box with and a few extra sides including chicken chow and satay between 5 of us. This came to around £50.

This was all absolutely delicious and really hit the spot. I'd probaly say it was the best chow mein I've ever had, and the crispy chicken was also a highlight. There was very generous portions with enough to feed everyone with leftovers, I would have just liked bigger curry sauce portions. Thought for £10 each it was pretty good value, we would definitely order again. Swipe to see my plate vs my partners 🤣

Is there any better weekend activity than a cute brunch, mooch and a coffee?

Last weekends brunch spot was B U R D S somewhere I'd fancied trying for a while. I was tempted by their iconic m**f, but went for their weekly special as fancied a sweet brekky.

The special was a lovely peach French toast with marscapone and spiced peaches, absolutely delicious and something a bit different from the usual French toast flavours. There was so much on the drinks menu, I went for an oat milk dirty chai but there was plenty of coffees, soft drinks and matchas.

My bill was around £18 and the service was pretty good. Would recommend, would return😋🫶

Eventually tried Manjaros last weekend after hearing a lot of hype, and it didnt disappoint

Theres so many parmos, burgers, pastas, pizzas and more to try, we went for the tandoori parmo and the tandoori parmo burger, with sides of onion rings and coleslaw.

Food was absolutely delicious with really good portion sizes and reasonable prices (I think the whole bill was around £40). The tandoori parmo is definitely my recommendation, that combo of cheese, bechamel sauce, tandoori chicken was so good, no chicken ick here.

We visited the Manjaros Sunderland perfect location opposite the Omniplex Sunderland for a full on date night!

Would recommend, would return (I want to try the puddings)🫶

herd.sheepfolds is the newest addition to the fab food vendors at Sheepfolds Stables in Sunderland

They offer smash burgers, chicken burgers, beers, milkshakes, loaded fries and desserts. Its a small menu with 3 choices of beef burger and 3 chicken, so won't take you ages to decide. We both went for the classic herd (pickles, lettuce, cheese, burger sauce) and added bacon, as well as sharing a portion of 5 chicken tenders.

I really enjoyed my burger, and would definitely recommend adding bacon. I wouldn't say it was the best burger I've ever had but it was delicious with lots of flavour, and I'd get it again if I fancied a burger while in Sunderland. We actually preferred the chicken tenders to the burger, which has made me want to go back and try the chicken burgers! This is just personal preference but I would have rather had proper chips than fries!

If you've got a sweet tooth then they do some thick milkshakes, and we were very tempted by the Guinness sticky toffee pudding! The bill was around %£50 so not the worst, and the service was really good too!

A good addition to the sheepfolds, next to try is Propa! Would recommend, would probaly return🫶
