A great place for coffee and snacks is The Foundry on Loughor Estuary. If you walk to the east you can enjoy the Estuary and the wadding birds there, or you could start a bike ride west and follow the Wales Millennium Coastal path to the Wetland Centre or further on to Burryport.

We had a great day in Llandeilo. We went first to the Pitchfork and Provision, a high quality independent artisan bakery and deli. You can have a choice of their handmade breads there which I can’t resist, especially with quality butter. They have a good selection of Coaltown coffee and they make it very well. The milk texture was spot on. We went back later, the coffee was just as good and their Bara Brith was the nicest I’ve tasted. I’d give this cafe 10 out of 10 but there were not healthy choices so I’m bringing it down to 9 out of 10.
For lunch we went to Diod. They have 2 locations in Llandeilo. I had tikka in flatbread with salad. It was quite nice, probably a 7 out of 10. The platters looked lovely, I will try one of those next time. They have their own brand coffee and it was pretty well made, so perhaps 8 out of 10 for that. We only went for a look at Heavenly Chocolate Emporium so it’s not fair to rate it.
Dinefwr House and Castle are a must to visit if you’re in this part of Wales. It’s National Trust run, you pay to park and get into the house. We didn’t go into the house but walked through the woods to Dinefwr Castle. We are convinced we actually had an encounter with Lord Rhys, who owned the castle in the 12th century and loved music and poetry. He is commonly believed to be founder of the Welsh eisteddfod.

If you’d like a day soaking up some history visit the Royal Mint in Llantrisant and the market town of Cowbridge. The Royal mint has been striking coins since 886 under Alfred the Great. It was based at the Tower before it modernised in the early 1800s at Tower Hill before moving to a state-of-the-art facility in Llantrisant, Wales, during decimalisation in the 1960s/70s.
We had rung up a couple of days previously and stated the of the 4 of us 3 are vegetarian and one of the vegetarians is also gluten intolerant. The message had not got through regarding the vegetarians ( it had regarding 1 being gluten free) . However, the service was fantastic and they brought us lots of extra vegetarian and gluten free additions. So much food!!!
After our visit we also went to Cowbridge. Cowbridge has Roman Foundations: Established in the 1st century AD. Evidence suggests a large Roman military presence, with a bathhouse being discovered in the 20th century.
During medieval times Richard de Clare, Lord of Glamorgan, granted the town a charter. And during the 15th-century Glyndŵr Rising, the town was attacked and partially destroyed but subsequently rebuilt.
There are many great eating and drinking places in Cowbridge my favourites for coffee is Ground. They make one of the best artisan coffees in South Wales and I will pass by without a latte.
It’s about a 50 minute drive from Swansea, so not too far, and well worth the effort.
