🥚 Salmonella and eggs - an important update 🥚
You may have seen recent news about an investigation into a Salmonella outbreak linked to imported eggs, which are mainly being used by food-service businesses such as restaurants and cafés rather than eggs sold for home use.
We want to reassure our customers that the producer who supplies our eggs is part of the Laid in Britain assurance scheme. 🇬🇧🥚
Thanks to the improved safety controls within the UK egg industry, eggs produced under the Laid in Britain scheme can be safely eaten raw or lightly cooked, including by people who may be more vulnerable to Salmonella illness.
Of course, eggs should always be handled hygienically and thoroughly cooked where appropriate.
If you are eating eggs when out at other restaurants or cafés, particularly if you are in a higher-risk group, it’s worth checking that the eggs being used are covered by a recognised UK assurance scheme such as British Lion or Laid in Britain.
