Had to move the young bulls this morning as the field they were in was seriously wet, not ideal conditions for stock on forage but we are doing what we can either by finding dry spots or rolling straw out for them.

This is Plenderlieth Wizzard who joined us last year as senior Luing stock bull in our Sutherland Luing herd, we think he’s an awesome bull and just what we were looking for.

Congratulations to Craigdarroch who yesterday smashed the breed record in Castle Douglas getting 32,000gns for a Wizzard son, they also revived 19,000gns and 11,000gns for two half brothers.

It would be fair to say we are very excited about his calves hitting the ground in March.

We are lucky to have an awesome team at Fearn and today Emily Mosley who is our farms administrator won the agriscot business skills final! We are all very proud of her, it was a huge step for her moving to the north of Scotland and she has adapted really well. Will need to have a celebration at the end of the week!

Delighted that we managed to secure this new herd sire today in Stirling, well done to James, doing the bidding, it was a little nerve wracking. Looking forward to seeing him arrive home tommorow. Palmerston comes from a great home where he has been well looked after by George (get well soon) Maureen and John.
Mr Gerald Turton also needs a mention he’s bred some cracking cattle over the years and is still extremely enthusiastic about the breed.

DELIGHTED with these lassies. 40 out of 41 scanned in calf (which we will of course round up to 98%) and looking like a 10 week calving spread🤞 Have been working on improving most aspects of the farm with calving efficiency being a key one which all begins with getting the cows in calf! Great work by our bull Lerwick from Fearn Farm @fearn_farm

A busy week here at Yourbid! We had Fearn Farm's "Great from Grass" ram sale in Scotland on Friday, selling 130 rams at an average of 850 pounds as well as some lines of females. Live at the moment we have Texel Rams, Lleyn Rams and some bulls in Incheoch Farms annual "Working Genes" sale - live now at https://www.yourbid.org/working-genes-sale-2021 We also have Meadowslea Genetics running their Second Online Semen and Embryo Sale - live now at https://www.meadowslea.co.nz/2021-semen-and-embryo-sale
💥⚡️ "Great From Grass..... THE MOVIE!" ⚡️💥 🤣 I had some fun thinking up something a wee bit different to promote Fearn Farm 's upcoming on-farm Tup and Gimmer sale on 27th August 2021! All tups have been videoed individually and the gimmers in their batches, these videos will be on Fearn Farm 's page in the next couple of days for viewing along with the catalogue. Grab your midweek babysham - I've written a letter! Dear Richard Branson 1️⃣0️⃣ Congratulations on your Virgin Galactic space trip; it looked like one helluva good jaunt – really not jealous at all! I am however pretty disappointed at the apparent hypocrisy of your stance on climate change. 9️⃣ It is pretty well documented that you have given up or at least dramatically reduced your meat consumption as you believe that beef in particular has a harmful impact on the environment. To a certain extent you are right. 8️⃣ The global average of beef production is about 37kg of CO2e per kg of beef produced. Some productions methods will be higher and some lower. For example we are working on our own farm Edinvale Farm to produce (at the very least) carbon neutral beef. We are not there yet. Our last carbon audit (we do them annually) indicated we were about average but on a projection to improve significantly this year. If you are interested we will share the results with you when we do our next audit at the end of the year. 7️⃣ We also work with other farms that have a similar ethos, e.g. the magnificent Fearn Farm where we get the majority of our lamb when in season. Again all grass based and looking hard at their environmental credentials. And you should see the credentials of wild venison. Wow! 6️⃣ We are trying really hard to do better - bit to go but we are heading in the right direction. So it really gnaws when you see that Richard Branson who has shunned meat for the sake of the environment, hops into a Virgin Galactic shuttle and hurls himself towards the moon. 5️⃣ From what I can see, your wee jaunt to the edge of space with 5 pals has emitted just shy of 7.5T of CO2. With the carbon that you have used, I could have produced 200 kg of beef which would feed conservatively 800 folk 1 substantial and healthy meal. However by feeding that 800 people 1 meal, I am also trying to improve the biodiversity on my farm, contribute to my local community, provide healthy and nutritious affordable food. I am looking to get better for the environment and our customers. 4️⃣ Plus your 7.5t of CO2 for your space flight does not include the carbon to build the plane, the runway, the spaceport, the space suits etc. 37kg of CO2 per kg of beef builds the cow! You have gone on a elitist joy ride with your pals because you are in a race to beat the other billionaires who also want to go to space. What is the opportunity cost though? What could you have done with your time, talent, resources and money? 3️⃣ It certainly won’t be as exhilarating but what about helping one of the oldest industries on the planet to get better? Develop and distribute new technologies, promote leaning, support worldwide knowledge exchange programmes, initiate ground breaking research. 2️⃣ Your virtue signalling affects peoples livelihoods, health and mental wellbeing. You build resource hungry companies and jet set around the world, and space. 1️⃣ Put your money where your mouth is and help solve the climate challenge, don't compound it. 🚀 Come back down to Earth 🌍
We've taken a different approach to our pitch maintenance this summer. Normally we would have been cutting the grass every 2 weeks, but this year we allowed it to grow. Two weeks ago it was sprayed for w**d control and this week it was cut and baled for silage. Next step is to scr**e it, seed it, roll it, feed it. 🤞 for rain ! Thanks to Rosskeen Supply Company Fearn Farm and Allan W J Wilson Ltd for all the hard work 🚜
We are delighted to be sponsoring the Top lines and Tales podcast that this week features our customers the Scotts at Fearn Farm. Great listen 👍
