We're pleased to stock a range of fresh and frozen meats from Veyseys Butchers in Cullompton.

Veyseys source their beef from local Devon farmers, hang their carcasses for a minimum of 21 days, and make their sausages and burgers by hand on site.

They pride themselves on 'From farm gate to plate'.

We're midway through Carers Week, and we wanted to share something practical.

The shop stocks a range of everyday essentials — bread, dairy, tins, fresh veg, household basics — so if you're caring for someone and running low on time, a quick trip here can tick several boxes at once. No supermarket car park. No queues. Just what you need, close to home.

If you know a carer locally who could do with a hand — whether that's a lift to the shop or just someone checking in — Carers Week is a good prompt to reach out.

This week is Carers Week — a chance to recognise the estimated 5.8 million unpaid carers across the UK who look after a family member or friend.

Here in Talaton, we know that caring can be exhausting, isolating, and relentless. The shop is one small place where you can take ten minutes for yourself — pick up something nice, have a word with whoever's on the till, and feel part of the village.

If you're a carer, or you know one, this week is a reminder that the contribution you make is enormous — even when it doesn't feel that way.❤️

⭐ Food Hygiene Rating — 5 out of 5!

We're delighted to share that Talaton Community Shop has retained its top food hygiene rating of 5 following our latest inspection. The certificate is now proudly displayed in the shop, but we wanted to share the news here too.

This rating belongs to our volunteers. They're the ones checking stock dates, keeping the records straight, and making sure the shop is clean and well-presented week in, week out. It's a lot of quiet, unglamorous work — and it makes all the difference.

This shop exists because people in this village give a bit of their time to keep it open.

Every person on a shift is helping to make sure Talaton has somewhere to pick up groceries, post a parcel, grab a hot drink, and see a familiar face.

We're proud of every one of our volunteers. And if you've ever thought about joining them — this is a good week to find out more.

Shifts are 2¼ hours. Training is provided. The welcome is guaranteed.

"We started volunteering for two-hour shifts on Friday mornings. It was a brilliant opportunity to meet people, catch up on local news, have a laugh, and provide an essential service to the village community."

That's how one of our volunteers describes it — and they came to Talaton from Surrey nearly eight years ago, ready to throw themselves into village life.

Since then they've added the Garden Club, Knit & Natter, amateur dramatics, and the Parish Council to the mix. Talaton has a way of doing that to people.

It often starts with a shift at the shop.

"I moved to the outskirts of Talaton in 2010 but didn't really use the shop. When I moved into the village last year, I thought it could be an opportunity to get more involved. It turned out to be a very good idea. I met more people, felt more integrated into the community — and I'd recommend anyone giving it a try."

Two and a quarter hours, once a week. That's the ask. What you get back tends to be a lot more than that.

⭐ Food Hygiene Rating — 5 out of 5!

We're delighted to share that Talaton Community Shop has retained its top food hygiene rating following our latest inspection. The certificate is now proudly displayed in the shop, but we wanted to share the news here too.

This rating belongs to our volunteers. Every week, without fuss, they're checking stock, monitoring use-by dates, recording chiller temperatures, and keeping the shop clean and tidy.
