Bumble bees are brilliant pollinators ❤️🐝

Doesn’t always go to plan!

Caught in the act! 🐝😲

Nature is a powerful force. Despite carrying out swarm control measures recently, this colony at Warton Honey decided it was time for a change of scenery.

Why do they swarm?
It’s actually a sign of success! When a colony becomes too crowded and healthy, the 'old' Queen leaves with about half the bees to find a new home, leaving the rest to raise a new Queen. It’s simply nature’s way of multiplying and ensuring the species survives. 🗺️✨

As you can see, they eventually settled in a nearby hedge, where we were able to safely recover them into a 'nuc' box. They are now settled, safe, and being monitored.

Have you ever seen a swarm in person? What did you think?

Remember: If you see a swarm in Warton, don't panic! Just keep a safe distance and call us or the BBKA (British Beekeepers Association) to help relocate them safely.

🍯 Spring List Update: Our Spring Priority List is now closed.

Always on the look out for wax moth which can destroy the hive, queen cells are the swarm sign!

Spotting the signs early.

Artisan beekeeping is a game of observation. This week at Warton Honey we found two things:

1. Small Queen Cells—a sign the bees are planning a 'move' (swarming).

2. A Wax Moth grub—a pest that can ruin a hive if left unchecked.

By taking pre-emptive action now, we stop the swarm before it happens and keep the hive healthy. It’s a 24/7 job during the Spring flow!

✨ Summer Waitlist is now LIVE. Secure your spot for the September harvest today.

Not every hive is a 'friendly' one! 🧤🐝

We spent some time this weekend assisting a fellow beekeeper with a particularly high-energy colony. Even with a significant number of bees in the air, we managed to find the Queen and assess the situation.

At Warton, we prioritise the safety of our apiary and—more importantly—the safety of the people in the vicinity.

Because these bees were showing defensive behavior, we have decided to 'requeen' the colony. By introducing new genetics, we can transform this hive into a calmer, gentler colony that is safe for the neighbourhood and more focused on producing honey. It’s a vital part of responsible, local beekeeping.

🍯 Spring Waitlist Update: To ensure we can fulfill our current promises, the Spring Priority List is now officially closed. But the bees don't stop! Our Summer Waitlist is now OPEN for the September harvest.

The heart of the hive has been found! 👑✨
We carried out our first full inspection at Warton Honey this weekend, and it was a joy to spot our Queen looking strong and active (she’s the one with the pink dot!).
Finding the Queen is always the highlight of an inspection. Her presence means the colony is organized, healthy, and perfectly on track for our Spring Harvest in May. 📈🍯
Waitlist Update:
The response from the village has been incredible—we now have 40 neighbours signed up! To keep our honey artisan and small-batch, we will be limiting this first run soon.

The 'Cargo' is coming in. 🚁🐝

At Warton Honey, we've been watching the bees' flight paths this week. They aren't just bringing in pollen; they are scout-sampling the first nectar of the season.
Did you know it takes roughly 2 million flower visits to create just one of our 1lb jars of Warton Honey? Watching them work like this makes us realize how precious every single drop of that Spring Harvest is going to be.

Waitlist Update:
Because each jar represents so much hard work from the bees, we strictly limit our priority list to what the hives can realistically produce. We are now at 40+ neighbours!
👇 Comment 'SPRING' to secure one of the remaining jars for the first batch.

While the bees are busy in your Warton gardens, the workshop at Warton Honey is stacked and ready.

These supers and fresh frames are the 'honey lofts' where the bees will store that delicious Spring nectar. We’ve spent weeks cleaning, torching, and fitting pre-wired wax so that when the oil seed r**e flows, the girls have exactly what they need to succeed. 🛠️✨
It’s all about being prepared for nature's schedule!

🍯 Batch 1 News: We are nearly 80% full for our first priority run.
