The Manager is able to undertake catering for parties, wedding receptions and other social events on request from members. There are also facilities for training courses and conferences. Rugby

The Rugby Club was formed in 1970. Originally formed as purely a social side, the Wyvern drew on players from Saturday sides, which then played other local Clubs in friendly fixtures on Sunday mornings. By the late 80's the 'next generation' of players had joined and the Club had a full season of Sunday Social fixtures right across South and West Somerset, even some against a few Devon sides. Many of those playing were purely playing for fun and were not Saturday players at all. The Club ranks swelled as league rugby took hold and many players were just looking for friendly fun rugby. The early part of the Noughties saw all Somerset sides (2nds and 3rds) go into to the Somerset Leagues. Some went willingly, some went kicking and screaming, but go the did. The death knell for the Wyvern began to toll. In three seasons the Club went from playing 22 fixtures in a season to 8. Faced with the Club folding, the decision was taken to change the whole ethos of the Club and become a Saturday side, joining Somerset 3 South at the start of the 2009/10 season. Following a successful campaign in 2011/12 the Club finished second in the league, just missing automatic promotion. A reshuffle of the sides in the various lower leagues of Somerset brought about promotion for the Wyvern to Somerset 2 South. Squash

There are three squash courts, including a newly-constructed show court with a glass back wall. Wyvern Squash Club enters four teams into the Somerset Squash League and is one of the most active squash clubs in Somerset. The Squash Club also runs a number of internal competitions and squash boxes together with a thriving junior section. Taunton St Andrews and Wyvern Cricket Club currently run four Saturday League sides, with the 1st and 2nd XIs playing in the West of England Premier League, which is the highest available standard below County representation and County 2nd XI equivalent, while the 3rd and 4th XIs play in the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset Cricket League, and five youth sides, under 11 to Under 15s. There is also a Sunday side that play a mixture of League and friendly fixtures and an occasional Sunday 2nd XI side. The Wyvern Club have also played host to women's international cricket and will continue to support this into the future.

๐Ÿ’ง A quick note about watering at The Wyvern

With the hosepipe restrictions coming into effect from tomorrow, Tuesday 18 August, some of you may notice that we will continue to carry out limited watering of specific areas of our sports pitches.

We are very conscious of the need to conserve water and will only be watering where it is necessary to maintain safe and playable sporting surfaces.

This includes the cricket square, where limited watering is necessary to prevent the playing surface becoming dangerously hard, and a specific area of the rugby pitch which has recently been prepared and reseeded. Without sufficient watering, the newly prepared area risks becoming extremely hard and uneven, potentially creating an unsafe playing surface when rugby returns.

The restrictions allow watering of grass areas used for sporting activities where this is necessary to prevent the playing surface becoming dangerously hard.

We will therefore keep any watering strictly targeted to these essential playing areas only, rather than watering the wider pitches or grounds, and will continue to use water as responsibly as possible.

Thank you for your understanding. ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‰

โ˜€๏ธ ITโ€™S A HOT ONE! โ˜€๏ธ

Itโ€™s 34ยฐC today and, as you can imagine, our kitchen is very hot right now! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Our lovely chef Rob is working hard in the heat this evening, so please bear with us and be a little patient if things take a bit longer than usual.

Weโ€™re doing our very best to keep everyone fed, watered and happy โ€” but the chef may be cooking in his own personal sauna tonight! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thank you for your patience and understanding. โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒ‘ SOLAR ECLIPSE AT THE WYVERN! ๐ŸŒ‘๐ŸŒž

Something a little bit different tonightโ€ฆ

Come down to the pub and watch the partial solar eclipse from the cricket pitch!

๐ŸŒ’ The Moon will cover around 94% of the Sun in Taunton, with the maximum eclipse at around 7.14pm.

So grab a drink, bring your friends, and come and stand out on the pitch with us while the Moon takes a giant bite out of the Sun. ๐Ÿบ๐ŸŒ‘

Best viewing from around 7pm onwards.

๐ŸŒž PLEASE BRING PROPER ECLIPSE GLASSES โ€” DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN.
You can also use safe pinhole projection to watch it.

Good views, cold b**r & a bit of magic. โค๏ธ

See you on the pitch! ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒ‘๐Ÿบ
