Harvesting Miscanthus

01/05/2026

Miscanthus is baled in the spring, after the crop has dried naturally over the winter in the field. It is typically baled at around 15% moisture content, ensuring good quality and storage stability. One of the key advantages of miscanthus is its strong net margins, largely because it requires minimal inputs once established.

To harvest Miscanthus, we use forage harvesters to cut the crop, which is then laid into a swath and left for several days to dry. Once the moisture content reaches the desired level, the material is baled.

Miscanthus rhizomes are loaded onto trailers and transported to our processing facility in Taunton, where they are carefully processed before being distributed to our clients.
