Fancy discovering a side of Tavistock you might not have seen before?

Heritage Open Days 2026 officially gets underway this weekend, with a fantastic programme of free events celebrating the people, places and stories that have shaped our town. And there’s plenty happening from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th September!

📜 Friday 11 September
Explore the fascinating Vicarage Garden and its ancient history, take a tour of Mount Kelly, or delve into the beginnings of Tavistock at the evening talk Earldorman, Lord and Queen.

👣 Saturday 12 September
Join the intriguing “Where Demons Fear to Tread” walk at 2pm, followed by an evening talk exploring the many faces of Ælfthryth – Temptress, Murderess, Mother and Patron.

🪦 Sunday 13 September
Discover more about Tavistock’s past on a guided visit to Plymouth Road Cemetery, including the Chapel of Rest and Old Mortuary.

And the best part? Many of the events are completely FREE!

Some events do require booking and several are already full, so check availability before you head out.

With more than 40 events taking place across Tavistock from 11–20 September, there’s plenty more to discover over the coming week too.

How is it Wednesday already? This week is flying by!

It’s an early start as we get the shop ready for opening at 7am. We’re just waiting for today’s fresh produce delivery to roll in, the kettle’s on, and there’s plenty to do before the doors open.

No time to leaf around this morning! We’ve got to get everything shipshape before the fresh stuff arrives. Hopefully, it’ll be a grape day, but either way, we’ll just have to romaine positive and carrot on!

Well, it’s certainly a wet and dreary one today! But don’t let that dampen your spirits.

I’m fully stocked up with lots of lovely goodies to help brighten up your dinner table.

This sort of weather always makes me want proper comfort food. For me, it has to be beef brisket in the slow cooker, creamy mash and some lovely roasted veg or tenderstem broccoli. You just can’t beat it!

What’s your go-to comfort meal on a day like this?

I’m always looking for new ideas… although I’m pretty sure the answer will involve potatoes somehow!

Rise and brine… it’s Saturday!

Blue skies, a fresh morning and the shop is looking rather fresh itself. The fruit is looking juicy, the veg is showing off, and we’re not one to beet around the bush… there’s plenty of good stuff on the shelves this morning.

Whether you’re planning a lazy brunch, a proper family roast, a Saturday night feast, or simply giving the fruit bowl a much-needed glow-up, we’ve got plenty of fresh goodness to tempt you.

So grab your bags, pop in for a browse and see what’s ripe for the picking. We promise there’s plenty to get a-peel-ing about.

While most people are still tucked up in bed, I’m out here seeing the stars on my walk to work! Definitely getting darker in the mornings now.

First coffee of the day is a must before I’m ready to turnip for work! Then it’s time to unpack the order, stock the shop and get everything looking grape.

No thyme to waste, so lettuce get cracking. Another early start, but I’ll just carrot on!
