Today, we are hugely excited to announce the three winners of Taste of England – our nationwide search to find the next generation of great chefs shaping new trends in how the country dines and drinks.
 
We can reveal that the winners are:
 
- Martin Carabott, Executive Chef at Gravetye Manor Hotel & Restaurant, Sussex
- Simon Hulstone, Chef Proprietor at The Elephant, Torquay
- Ethan Pack, Head Chef at Three Sheets, Soho

The winners were announced last night during an event at our winery home in Tenterden, Kent with members of the press in attendance for an exclusive dinner featuring several dishes from the winning menus - perfectly paired with Chapel Down wines.
 
The winners chefs were chosen by an expert panel comprising of David Ellis , Restaurant Critic; Jimi Famurewa, Broadcaster and Restaurant Critic; Libby Brodie, Wine Columnist; Jonathan Parker, Managing Director of Food & Beverage at Ascot Racecourse; and Josh Donaghay-Spire, Head Winemaker at Chapel Down.
 
While each of the three winners brought a distinct perspective, all shared a commitment to showcasing the quality, creativity and diversity of British food, and confirmed that England’s evolving tastes pair perfectly with Chapel Down’s English sparkling wines. The winning chefs will showcase their menus at three exclusive dinners at the Chapel Down winery in Kent as well as during Ascot’s King George Race Weekend and at the Ascot Big Food & Wine Festival.

Chef Steve Smith's superlative Royal Ascot dessert: English strawberries topped with sheep's milk yoghurt, strawberry sorbet and a Chapel Down Grand Reserve and fresh strawberry juice foam, all finished with wild English herbs.

Chef Steve Smith said of the pairing with our Kit's Coty Blanc de Blancs 2019: "It has almost got a shortbread finish, which makes it a great pairing for the dessert".

This fine food and wine pairing will be showcased at The Vista restaurant throughout Royal Ascot Week, as part of Steve's very special six-course tasting menu.

We were so proud to support the stunning She Grows Veg garden at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. A female-founded business with strong ethical roots, She Grows Veg produces heritage variety seeds designed to encourage people to grow their own veg at home.

This summer, we’re shining a light on Chapel Down’s long association with the finest English food and homegrown flavours, and these stunning heirloom varieties were no exception. It was a privilege to serve our award-winning Chapel Down Brut as part of Chelsea Flower Show’s press day attended by many famous faces including Sir David Beckham, Dame Judi Dench, Alan Titchmarsh, Joanna Lumley and many more.
