Last week, we completed planting a 30-acre field with over 1000 heritage fruit trees from .
The motivation for this stem back to 2019 when we felt into a new way of farming. One where we put nature restoration & connection at the heart of our farming strategy, along with producing food.
We also felt into the climate and biodiversity crisis, so, we wanted to help sequester carbon by the planting of fruit trees and also with the aim of improving the infield biodiversity. With climate change has come more extreme weather events. So the trees' principal function is to provide shade and shelter for livestock. The trees will provide a second crop of food in the field as well as beef and lamb. As we have bees on the farm the fruit trees will provide an abundance of nectar which will be turned into 🍯.
We made a conscious decision to plant heritage fruit trees so we could show case the great variety of fruit that is available in the UK.
