RESIN CONTAMINATION

Today Keith gave a demonstration in the workshop of what a serious case of resin contamination can look like. Our customer had reported low flow through their old water softener. Old resin (or poor quality) resin is sensitive to chlorine in the water supply, causing the resin to expand and restrict flow. When opening the inspection cap on the cylinder, the pressure that has built up forces the expanded resin to escape “out the sunroof”.

Hard water vs soft water....what might this look like in your home?

There are many reasons that people decide to fit a softener but frustrations with, what can feel like, never ending cleaning is often one of them.

Most people don't connect the dots until it's too late.

A washing machine that gave up after five years, a kettle that furred up within months, the emergency call out to the boiler. In hard water areas like Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire, limescale quietly reduces the lifespan of your appliances. Day to day, it goes completely unnoticed until something needs replacing.

No appliances last forever, but there is no reason that limescale should be what sends them to the appliance graveyard before their time.

Winter gets a lot of the blame for dry skin. But for many in our area this is only half the story...

Hard water, a problem throughout Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire, is high in calcium and magnesium. Those minerals (the same ones that leave marks on your taps and scale in your kettle) disrupt the skin's natural barrier, making it harder to retain moisture.

So you might have been stepping out of the shower, noticing your skin feeling tight but not realising that the two could be linked. Spring is springing, but the dry/tight feeling on your skin may not be easing...

Sometimes we are called in when things haven't quite gone to plan...

Installations can be tricky, and not everyone that fits a water softener specialises in them. When pipework isn't right it can cause problems over time. It may impact performance, create difficulty servicing or even make it difficult to isolate your softener (if ever needed).

This was a recent job we were called out to to help rectify their pipework - before and after.

It's a Hard Water Tax.

The beautiful chalk and limestone that gives us our stunning Dorset coastline is also responsible for our hard water. Our water becomes full of calcium and magnesium leaving its mark on our homes in ways we notice, and plenty we don't.

Over three years, our research suggests a 4 person household could be £1,000 worse off because of it — across energy bills, cleaning products, appliance lifespan and plumbing repairs.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

As we packed up for Christmas today, we dropped a hamper full of treats to the winners of our silent raffle, who appeared to be equally surprised and delighted with their basket of goodies.

The office will be open tomorrow morning, then closed until 2nd Jan. All voicemails and online orders will be monitored in this time.
