We are not called to be led by our feelings but to listen to them so we can understand ourselves more deeply.
Feelings are signals, not instructions. They show us where we are hurting, where we need boundaries, where we long for connection, or where healing is still unfolding.

When we pause, reflect, and hold our emotions with curiosity instead of fear, they become guides that enhance our understanding rather than control our steps.

Slow down. Notice. Learn.
Your emotional awareness is part of your strength, not a weakness.

THE INNER CHILD: A JOURNEY OF UNDERSTANDING, HEALING & RECLAIMING SELF

INTRODUCTION
Meeting the Child Within

Every person carries a version of themselves that existed long before adulthood;
the playful child, the fearful child, the hopeful child, the child who learned how to adapt in order to survive.

Psychologists often describe the inner child as the part of us shaped by early emotional experiences, and research on attachment and developmental psychology shows that unmet childhood needs often re-emerge later as patterns in relationships, triggers, fears, or emotional responses and we might be oblivious to them when it happens.
It's when we engage in counselling that we discover that our normal often is not so normal.

But inner child work is not about blaming parents.
It’s about locating our unmet needs with compassion, understanding how they shaped our life, and learning to meet those needs ourself.

As one researcher wrote, “Healing happens when the adult self becomes the nurturer the child self never had.”

This journey is yours, find a note pad/book and follow these upcoming days while we understand our inner child.
Healing is possible.

BURNOUT SERIES

A gentle guide on burnout at work & in relationships for those seeking emotional balance and support.

Part 1: Understanding Burnout.

Many clients arrive in counselling feeling exhausted but unsure why.
Burnout is often the quiet root, a state of emotional, physical, and mental depletion that arises when stress has been sustained for too long without adequate rest or support.

The World Health Organization (WHO) describes burnout as:

1. Emotional exhaustion

2. Depersonalisation (feeling disconnected)

3. Reduced sense of accomplishment

It doesn’t only happen in high-pressure workplaces.
It can also develop within relationships, caregiving roles, or home environments where emotional labour outweighs emotional safety.

Common experiences:

“I’m tired no matter how much I sleep.”

“I don’t feel like myself anymore.”

“I can’t enjoy the things I used to.”

“I’m withdrawing from people I love.”

Burnout is not a personal flaw or a failure.
It is an emotional response to prolonged overwhelm.
Take some rest, reset then keep going. You cannot pour on empty.

Everyone Starts Somewhere. Even After It All Falls Apart.

I was talking to someone recently who just came out of a relationship. She’s trying to rebuild her life; her confidence, her peace, her dreams. Yet her ex is doing everything possible to tear down what she’s building.

It made me realise how many others might be dealing with the same kind of quiet bullying or emotional abuse after heartbreak. So I wanted to share this message not only for her but also for all of us who needs it.

I told her this:
Don’t let anyone who broke you dictate your healing.
Everyone starts somewhere, even after heartbreak.
No, especially after heartbreak.
I’ve been there. I know how heavy it feels.

Breakups are never easy; not for the one who ends it, and not for the one left behind. But hear me clearly: PUT YOURSELF FIRST.
The main character in your life is you. Everyone else can wait.

Sound selfish? It’s not. No one else knows the pain you endured to reach that decision, or the courage it takes to rebuild afterward. Protect your peace.

People who see you growing beyond them will often try to drag you back to the version of yourself that served their comfort. Ignore the noise. Keep building. Keep believing.

Your new beginning might feel small right now but it’s real. It’s sacred. And it’s yours.

Keep standing tall for even the strongest trees began as fragile seeds.

If you find yourself in a position where anxiety, self-doubt and any other negative feelings is taking over your life, don't hesitate to contact me.

Together let's find your balance.

Who Holds You in Both Seasons?

When you’re discouraged, disconnected, or drifting, who do you call?
And when life is smooth, bright, and balanced, who stands beside you then?

Often, these are two different people; the ones who can hold your pain may not be the same ones who celebrate your calm. Yet sometimes, they’re also the same soul, wearing two different faces of love.

The truth is, our support system shifts with our seasons.

In our low moments, we need someone who listens without fixing, holds without judging, and reminds us that healing takes time.

In our high moments, we need someone who cheers without envy, claps without condition, and simply delights in our joy.

Whether it’s two people or one who wears both hats, recognise them.
Cherish them. Thank them.

Because being loved through both storm and sunshine is rare and being that kind of person for someone else is even rarer.

Part 6: Closing of the body keeps score reflection

Over these past posts, we’ve walked through some of the ways trauma affects us, how it lives in the body, shapes the brain, influences our connections, and narrows the space for joy.

But we’ve also looked at something just as important: healing.
Healing that comes through gentle practices, safe relationships, and rediscovering moments of balance and meaning.

If you recognised parts of yourself in these posts, know this: you are not broken and you are not alone. The body remembers pain, yes, but it also remembers how to heal. Step by step, with patience and support, it is possible to reclaim your life.

Here, it’s my privilege to walk alongside people on this journey. Whether you’re just beginning or already on the path, healing doesn’t have to be done in isolation.

Something to carry with you: Each day, notice one small sign of strength, a deep breath, a kind word, a moment of calm. These are the quiet building blocks of recovery.

This may be the end of the series, but it can also be the beginning of your next chapter.

Together, let’s find your balance @ Every Emotions Counselling
