We were delighted to see Roughway Farm mentioned in The Guardian this week in Rachel Roddyโ€™s piece on hazelnut and chocolate cake.

Kentish cobnuts are a special part of Kentโ€™s food heritage, and it is lovely to see "the Cobnut Triangle" celebrated in print too.

Our dehusked Cobnuts are still available and on sale so you can give this recipe a try. We also have ready shelled and roasted cobs available.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support British farming and Kent produce.

A rather pastoral feel accompanies this weekโ€™s simple recipe for a nutty chocolate cake

Same plants ๐ŸŒฑ - two different types of rhubarb

On the left we have outdoor rhubarb and on the right we have forced rhubarb which has been grown indoors in the dark. Quite a fantastic contrast!

The outdoor plant has had to contend with lower and more varied temperatures and so has grown more slowly. It has benefited from sunlight enabling the growth of large green leaves and red green stalks that are perhaps more familiar when one thinks of rhubarb.

The outdoor plant has largely used photosynthesis for growing ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธโ˜˜๏ธ.

The forced plant has been grown indoors in the dark (until this photo shoot ๐Ÿ“ธ). It has benefited from a more consistent and higher temperature๐ŸŒก๏ธ. The plant has grown very quickly and tall seeking the light and is using its carbohydrate reserve in the crown for growth.

The forcing process has produced beautifully pink stems of rhubarb. The rhubarb as a result tastes more tender, delicate and sweet (for rhubarb).

When cooking the juice is also a lovely pink colour which brightens up any kitchen this time of year.

The forced season typically runs from Jan-March/April.

You can order harvested Kentish forced rhubarb on our website for delivery to you door. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿšš
