Adrian Scripps LTD

Adrian Scripps LTD Adrian Scripps began farming in 1960 on a traditional Weald of Kent Hop and Fruit Farm. The philosophy was simple; produce quality, reinvest and expand.

We are fruit farmers in Kent, having farmed the land in West Kent on one of our farms since the 1960's we produce high quality Desert and Cooking apples, Pears and Sauvignon Grapes. Today, Adrian Scripps Ltd farms 750Ha across 5 specially selected sites across Kent, our farms are based in Tonbridge, Gravesend and Canterbury. This includes more than 320Ha of Apples, Pears and Blackcurrants making us one of the UK’s largest fruit growers.

It's not just lambs and calves that need nightime care...our dedicated production team have been out caring for the 🍇 vines...a frost at this stage will break a crop but the candles help to keep them frost free. With many thanks to our colleagues for all their effort in giving these vines the best possible chance.

Spring is a wonderful time for us, but Mother Nature will ultimately make or break a crop. For our Production team, it is a particularly anxious time. Conditions must be right now for a successful crop and these are constantly being monitored; is it warm enough, is it going to be frosty, are we expecting hailstorms, will it be suitable conditions for the bees to pollinate? The recent cold winds from the east have been of concern, but many conditions we can do nothing about.
However, AI assisted technology is something we can utilise where decision making is much improved, thus enhancing our chances of a good harvest. Through scanning individual trees from our tractors, we can map blossom density. This is a massive improvement in our ‘toolbox’ to help determine our approach to achieve the best results from each variety in each orchard.
One photo here from Fred’s tractor is an example of the mapping we are achieving through this tremendous technology.

Fred let loose with our latest farm technology after being part of our team for over 25 years! That must be the straightest he’s ever driven and with no hands on the wheel! Spring has finally arrived after the most horrendously wet winter, mother nature once again challenging us. The pruning has gone well, even for the beavers! Buds have emerged and all the orchards are coming alive once again. Happy days!

More amazing achievements in our orchards by our Production team… Alex, Niall, Daniel, Philip and Eugenia collecting the awards at the East Kent Fruit Society Dinner. Well done to all of the Production team across all the farms for yet more fantastic achievements this year. The Packhouse team are full bore now ensuring the fruit arrives with our customers in pristine condition.

It’s the National Fruit Show on 5th November but some of us will be unable to get there as our fantastic team are still flat out picking apples…. We hope it’s a great show and we hope some of us will see you there!

As this season’s harvest draws to a conclusion, we are thankful to ALL the fantastic people in our organisation which make it happen. Mother Nature has been kind to us these last few weeks, enabling us to complete Parsonage Farm picking in good time…therefore allowing the team to join our other farms for a final push on Braeburn and Pink Lady to completion. Not long to go and we hope the reasonable weather holds. What a season and what a great team! Thank you everyone.

Some of our fantastic harvesting team return each year....Andrew, pictured only last week with his Father, son and sheepdog Prince rounding up their sheep and weighing lambs has returned to Kent on a 'busman's holiday' as he has done for a few years now!
Life on Exmoor farming sheep and cattle is very different to growing fruit and it's a nice break for Andrew to spend some time in Kent working in a different environment and making new friends (Paulo pictured).
In his spare time, Andrew is a bellringer for several Churches on Exmoor and whilst in Kent he has rung the bells in Sandwich, Wingham and Littlebourne.
We are very thankful to have Andrew and all our other amazing seasonal team members to enable our harvesting...without them it wouldn't be possible!
