How can you make your Christmas more sustainable and eco friendly?

With Christmas around the corner, most of you are probably thinking about buying and wrapping presents and decorating your house all christmassy, but how can we do this to make it more eco friendly for the environment? Have a look at the tips below and see if there's any you could implement this year, comment below to let us know if you're making some changes.

🌱 Opt for decorations made out of wood, felt, ceramic and plant based materials instead of plastic
🌱Use wrapping paper made of recycled paper or fabric
🌱 Send Christmas cards that are forest friendly (marked with FSC) or plantable
🌱Buy eco friendly Christmas crackers that you can reuse each year
🌱Make your own wreath with natural foliage and adornments
🌱Invest in a reusable advent calendar
🌱Reduce your food waste. Consider donating surplus food to local food banks instead of throwing away
🌱Switch to LED christmas lights
🌱Use plant based glitter
🌱Resist the temptation to buy clothes with sequins which are made from PVC.

Black Friday has grown over the past few years and is now a much anticipated date for many people to try and grab a bargain, but it do you know about the effects Black Friday has on the environment?

Black Friday is valuable to many businesses but from an ecological perspective it has many detrimental effects on the environment. Attractive discounts make some offers hard to ignore which leads to impulse buying and buying things that people don't really need. This then results in excess waste and unnecessary CO2 emissions.

Don't worry, we're not about to start telling you to avoid Black Friday, with Christmas approaching buying in the Black Friday sales are a great place to grab a bargain. However if you do go out and shop for some bargains, shop more mindfully and sustainably by only buying what you need and minimising waste, go out with a list so that you only by what you need and aren't swayed by enticing deals and don't end up spending more than you need to!

A LITTE UPDATE

This week we've been busy working on our charity application and getting some of our legislations done. We've been drafting up health & safety documents, data protection documents and fundraising policies to name a few.

We still have a few things to work through but we're confident that by the end of next week we should have everything in place to enable us to submit our charity application.

Wish us luck and as always, please keep sharing our posts and page.. thank you ☺️

🌱 WHAT IS AN ECOFARM? 🌱

Ecofamring is healthy farming to produce healthy food by protecting the soil, water and climate. It promotes biodiversity and doesn't contaminate the environment with chemical input or genetic engineering.

People may confuse this with organic farming which is slightly different as this focuses on the end product by not using pesticide and chemicals whereas with ecological farming we look at the larger ecosystem by looking at protecting the soil it works on.

There are many benefits to ecofarming, for example;
🌱 It produces less carbon dioxide
🌱 It causes less pollution
🌱 Prevents the greenhouse effect
🌱 It's more envirmonmentally friendly
🌱 It produces sustainable crops
🌱 Saves energy

It is also a healthier option as it doesn't use chemical pesticides or synthetic additives, the use of these have been linked to a variety of health issues like the one below for the consumer and the one handling the crops;
❗️Allergies
❗️Heart failure
❗️Osteoporosis
❗️Migraines
❗️Asthma
❗️Parkinsons
❗️Cancer
❗️Hyperactivity
