Today is Swallowing Awareness Day, a day that aims to raise awareness of Dysphagia.

Dysphagia is the medical term for having difficulty swallowing, it can be caused by a number of conditions such as stroke, cancer and dementia, and is regularly seen in care home residents.

Tomorrow is Random Acts of Kindness Day, a day that celebrates the power of kindness and reminds us that every act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a big difference.

Here are a few ways you could sprinkle some kindness around your care home:

- Write a note of appreciation for a colleague and leave it on their desk. ✏️

- Share a cup of coffee or tea with a coworker during a break. ☕

- Compliment someone genuinely. 💓

- Spend some extra time with a resident, listening to their stories or sharing a laugh. 🥰

- Create a kindness wall where residents and staff can post notes of appreciation or kind messages for each other. 💌

- Host a story-sharing hour where residents can share stories of the kindest acts they've experienced or witnessed. 🗣

- Set up a station in your staff room where your colleagues can pick up small treats or fruit on their break. 🍓

- Be kind to yourself. Once you get home from work, dedicate some time to do something that makes you feel relaxed and rejuvenated. It could be taking a long bath, reading a book, practicing yoga, or anything else that nurtures your well-being. 🛀

Veganuary takes place throughout the whole of January and aims to inspire people to try a vegan diet. A vegan is someone who doesn’t eat meat or any products that derive from animals, such as dairy and eggs.

We've got plenty of vegan dishes on the menu, sure to be enjoyed by vegans and non-vegans alike!

Our Bean Chilli and Vegan Thai Red Curry are sure to warm you up in the cold winter months, or if you prefer something sweeter, our Apple Crumble is a great option.
