I am opening tomorrow at about 10am and will close at 3
pm.
The rain has not worked yet, Well it has greened up a bit. This picture was taken last autumn. Like many farmers, we have worries about winter feed supplies . At Cusgarne we only feed grass products , mostly hay this year. This is part of my personal campaign to reduce plastic wrap on the farm. What a year to chose! But if you cut silage late, it is usually nearly hay when you bale it in any case. After we did get it cut there was no real rain to make it grow to allow a second cut.
Our 3 groups of cattle have had to roam over 30 acres each eating brown grass flecked with green. The remaining 10 acres were either fields between each batch or for planting winter crops which we managed to plant in scorching July with the help of my home made water injection attachment on the planter. The water was supplied by our bore hole, which so far has never run dry... cross fingers and touchwood! A few years ago, it was either a Ferrari or a bore hole! I reckon I made the right choice.
