A New Chapter
After 61 years of family ownership, we wanted to share some very personal news with our friends, customers and the many people who have been part of The Green Welly Stop story.
The Green Welly Stop has now been placed on the market.
For three generations of the Gosden, Wilkie and Robertson families, The Green Welly Stop has been far more than a business. Since Les and Betty Gosden first opened our doors in 1965, it has grown from a small roadside stop into a place known and loved by millions of people travelling through the Highlands.
Over those 61 years, countless memories have been made here. We've welcomed families who have been visiting for generations, walkers and cyclists heading into the hills, motorcyclists, coach parties, locals, regular customers, accommodated stranded people in staff areas, assisted breakdowns, and people simply stopping for a coffee, a meal, fuel or a friendly chat. It's been a ride!
And while this is undoubtedly an emotional time for the family, there is also a real sense of pride in what has been created.
Most importantly, The Green Welly Stop is continuing to trade as normal. Our fantastic team remain here, doing what they do every day, and it is very much business as usual.
The decision to sell has not been an easy one. The Green Welly Stop has been such a huge part of family life for more than six decades, and walking away from something that has been built with so much hard work, love and dedication is incredibly difficult.
But we also believe this is the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
Our hope is that the right new owners will recognise just how special The Green Welly Stop is, build on its unique heritage, support our fantastic team and take this much-loved Highland landmark forward for many more years to come.
We would like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has played a part in our story - our incredible staff, past and present, our management team, our suppliers, our local community and, of course, every single customer who has stopped here over the last 61 years.
Whether you've been visiting us for decades or only discovered us recently, you have helped make The Green Welly Stop what it is today.
We are incredibly proud of our history, grateful for the memories and excited to see what the future may bring.
As we said above, it's very much business as usual at The Green Welly Stop - and we look forward to welcoming you as always. 💚
