A quick watch but eye opening!! Please support your local farmers, butchers and shops. Buying direct really helps to support your community and ensure farmers remain farming. There are some great local producers around us and of course we stock as much homegrown and local produce as possible. Thank you :-)

Avian Flu is a total nightmare this year! Over 70,000 birds have already died from it within 10Kms of us over the last month; that's without all the wild birds and local pheasants known to have it. An uninsurable loss, no vaccine and with an incompetent APHA running the show the future looks pretty gloomy for any avian farmers :-(

Tens of thousands of turkeys and chickens have already been culled after an outbreak of the disease in Wales.

But will it really make any difference in time to save UK agriculture?

Labour have waged a war on rural Britain and hammered farmers with the Family Farm Tax.

So today, Kemi Badenoch will announce a landmark plan to rescue Britain’s farmers.

Live on Facebook from 12pm. Don’t miss it.

Our thoughts go out to the local farm, and all those poor hens, sadly affected by H5N1 Avian Flu. Whilst we are in a surveillance area we continue to trade as normal but with heightened biosecurity and extra measures to help keep our girls, staff, customers and ourselves safe.

Farming can be very tough and extremely stressful at times. There is no insurance to cover Avian Flu and as a small family farm it would be a life changing episode if our girls were to contract it. Please continue to support us and your local farmers. Thank you

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed in commercial poultry near Uckfield, Wealden, East Sussex on 31 October 2025.

So pleased we were in a position to support Harry & Sam at the beginning and super grateful for our lovely working relationship and friendship ever since. SHRUB stands for everything we believe in and they work beautifully with their suppliers. Congratulations 🥳 Support local, regenerative, thoughtful farming wherever you can

Five years ago, Sam and I (Harry) started a small little company called Shrub, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

While much of the country was on furlough, besides themselves with boredom, we were working harder than we'd ever worked in our lives. And we loved it. Still do.

They say it takes a village to raise a child the same can be applied to business. We are raised above the ground on the shoulders of all of you, too many to mention. Growers, farmers, our team, chefs, bakers, millers, makers, industry colleagues, business mentors, friends, family, neighbours, mechanics (too many mechanics) and simply people that are interested.

A special mention to Trevor and Sharon from The Old Dairy Farm and Shop, who gave us our first home, free of charge, until we got on our feet and even then asked for very little but gave us so much in company, motivation support and solace. We wouldn't be here without you.

Five years ago, we left behind a job and a company that represented everything wrong with our work culture and society today. Greenwashing, fakery, toxic work culture, gimmicks, finance grabbing, gambling, stepping on top of and over others. In response, we committed to each other, to be the antidote to this kind of behaviour. To prove this wasn't "just the way the world works". It is not.

Shrub is and always will be an integrity business. That is something the bigger players with bigger marketing budgets will never be able to attain themselves. Its our superpower, and we remain accountable to the people we surround ourselves with, who are themselves, people of integrity. Our team are our family and our suppliers and customers our cousins. I relationships are the glue of our business.

Who knows what the next five years hold. But we promise to do it as we always have and better.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our story along the way and we look forward to meeting those yet to enter into it.

Yesterday saw the British farming community come together in amazing force in London; over 1400 tractors from far and wide. We're proud to be part of that extended farming family, however, the government still refuses to listen and there is still deep uncertainty as to how the changes will affect each farm.

Uncertainty is something farmers are used to living with, beit, the weather, the markets, current trends etc but uncertainty is bad for business and mental health.

Farmers need some firm and sensible answers. The more you read, the more confusing it becomes! The government claims it will only affect the top 3% of farms but that's simply not true and some say it could affect 90% of farms!!

No farmer is going to be investigating in its farms future until there's some clarification! That's a huge knock on effect in the countryside; tractor replacements on hold, reduced farm inputs, no training new staff, reduced production etc.

Transparency, sensibility and forward planning needs to avail before UK farming is damaged beyond repair and the countryside is lost forever.

The media needs to step up to the mark and start showing our unity and the truth; why was the rally not all over mainstream media yesterday? See the video in comments for the noise created whilst the issue was being debated in parliament.

Please support your local farms and talk to your local farmers. They need your support now more than ever before!!

Don't believe all you read in the media!! Farmers are not protesting about the IHT as a single issue; it is the final issue, over plenty of others, to bring the farming communities together!! Please read. It's vital that consumers realise how important our countries producers are. Thank you.

A new study we funded at the University of Oxford shows that having the amount of calcium in a large glass of milk every day could lower bowel cancer risk by nearly 20%.

In the largest study ever conducted on the links between diet and bowel cancer, calcium from both dairy and non-dairy sources had a similar effect.

These results help to highlight the importance of a healthy balanced diet in reducing cancer risk and supporting long-term health.

Research has found that more than half of bowel cancer cases are preventable. New findings, like this study by Oxford Population Health, are an important step towards ensuring fewer people are impacted by cancer in the future.

Amazing work from the University of Oxford 💜

Virtually everything in our Christmas dinner was produced within 20 miles of home (including drinks); it is possible and well worth a bit of extra leg work and a lot less queueing!! Food security is going to be a huge issue moving forward. Embrace your local producers before we're all squeezed out by the government!

Agriculture is in so much trouble! I can not stress enough how important it is to keep Britain farming. The final blow from Labour is just a step too far!!
British food production and food security should be at the top of everyone's agenda! The government, the supermarkets, the corporates and the fast food outlets are doing a fabulous job of ensuring control of food and therefore control of the population!! A scary but very real situation.
