CLOSED DOWN
Arthritis is a pain – literally, as many people know and don`t need me to tell them, and it`s my own arthritis that has forced Dave and I into the decision to close down the Scallop Shack.
Definitely the end of an era for us.
It`s 35 years this May that Dave and his good friend Keith set off from Manchester to seek their fortunes as scallop divers. It`s been quite an adventure. In the beginning, we only sold scallops wholesale in the shell. Then folk would turn up at the pier as the scallop boat came in, and buy them direct from the boat, and when they started asking for them out of the shell, The Scallop Shack was created.
It`s been a lot of work, and a lot of fun, and we`ve met some amazing people and shared a lot of tales and cheese toasties and cups of tea.
Thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way, and to everyone who came along to buy the scallops.
There will be a lot of things we`ll miss - and some we won`t! We`re sorry there will be folk disappointed not to get their seafood treat, but it`ll be party time in scallop land that`s for sure!

🎈🎉SCALLOPS AVAILABLE AGAIN FROM 1PM TUESDAY 27TH OCTOBER. 🎉🎈
Pre ordered scallops will be in the right hand fridge for collection - just message to let me know how many you want and which day you want to collect. The left hand fridge will have tubs for passing trade.

Fridge will be topped up with scallops by 1pm today - just so`s you know! Message if you want any putting aside for collection. Plenty available for the foreseeable, plus oysters at £1.50 each.

Sorry, but we`re sold out - will let you know the moment we get more scallops - looking like Tuesday next week, but I`ll keep you posted. If you want to pre-order, message, and I`ll make sure to send you a confirmation when I know we have them.

Lots of lovely scallops - get them while stocks last!
Best to message with a pre order if you want to be sure of finding them. The wind is still looking a little tricksy for the next few days, so it`s possible we may run out before they can get out for more.
Still have fresh Isle of Lewis oysters too.

Dear scallop seekers - update on availability - on account of the weather having been perfectly horrid this week as far as scallop diving goes, it pains me to announce that we have run out of scallops.

We kept aside the ones that folk have already already preordered, so they`re ok, but for those who are just starting to think that it might be nice to have a smackeral of something scallopy this weekend, I`m afraid Scallop Shack scallops are off the menu.

The wind looks tricksy for diving for the next few days. There`s half a chance of getting more over the weekend, but I`ll add a post here as soon as we know for sure we can get more.

We do have plenty of fresh Isle of Lewis oysters, so that may help to ease the blow. Just message to let me know if you want any putting aside, and if you`ll need the shells loosening.

Don`t despair - will post again in the next few days with better news.

Scallop Shack update - here`s how it works - no cafe (boos and sad faces) but lots of fresh scallops to take away to cook (hurrahs and happy faces) AND we have 200 Isle of Lewis oysters just in (hurrahs, happy faces, and lots of throwing of hats in the air)

The left hand fridge is getting topped up with scallops each day for passing trade, but they do go quickly, so if you want to be sure of any it`s best to pre order.
Just message with name, how many you want and which day you want them. Your order will be left in the right hand fridge with your name and price, and you can collect after 1pm whichever day you`d ordered them for.
The door is always left open, so you can collect whenever suits - honesty box and change for payment.

Oysters - best to pre order, and let us know if you want the shells loosened or not.

That about covers it - off to rescue the new puppy. She`s been wrestling with a large welly boot and has got most of her body stuck inside it now....

Having run down to The Scallop Shack three times today to process orders ( thank-you by the way! ) we`ve now come up with a new plan!

I will process any scallop orders on Monday and Friday afternoons for you to collect at your own convenience. Ideally collect and use the same day for optimum freshness, but they will easily keep five days in the fridge, and they can be frozen. It would be helpful to receive orders by mid-day on the Monday or Friday.

Same script as before - contact us giving your name, number of scallops and collection day, and they will be left in the right hand fridge on the Monday or Friday afternoon.

Dear Scallop Seeker

First of all – we do have scallops!
Whilst the corona virus restrictions are in place we have decided not to leave tubs in the fridge on the off chance of anyone passing by, since we found we`d still have tubs sitting there a few days later. Freshness is the key to the best quality scallops, so now we`re just preparing them to order.

If you want scallops, please contact us using one of the methods below, giving
• Name
• How many scallops
• Collection day
• Rough idea of time of collection

We will prepare your scallops on the day and leave them in the right-hand fridge, and label the tubs with your name and price. Honesty box for payment, plus change if needed in the chicken – naturally!
