🦞 2026 IN NUMBERS 🦞

🎉 We are pleased to say that 2026 has been our biggest and best season yet! With almost 22,000 baby lobsters released, our upward release trend year-on-year continues, and we couldn't be more happy! Join Helix, our data lobster, to learn even more about our output this season. 🧬

💙 We couldn't have done it without the support of our wonderful volunteers and placement students, who so kindly gave their time to our project. Extra special thanks to those who carried out research projects at the hatchery - your findings are the reason we've managed to boost survival rates to the extent that we did! You're the best!! 🩵

🫡 And thank YOU, and everyone else who supported us this year. It's because of your kindness and generosity that we can continue the work, and conserve our vital population of the wonderful European lobster! 🌊

🦞BEACH WALKS, FREE COFFEE, CITIZEN SCIENCE. INTERESTED?🦞

We're looking for regular beach walkers anywhere from Scarborough to Newcastle to join BeachTrack NE, our new citizen science project with and the Fishmongers' Company's Fisheries Charitable Trust 💙

It's simple:

🚶 Walk your usual stretch of coast

📱 Log what you see on the free BeachTrack app: stranded marine life, litter, or nothing at all

☕️ Come along to a workshop near you to meet fellow walkers (the coffee's on us!)

And yes, "nothing" really does count. Since 2021, our coast has seen several unexplained die-offs of marine life. Regular records of ordinary days help scientists spot unusual events sooner and understand what's happening along our shores 🦞🔬

🦞2027 CALENDAR🦞

🌊Twelve months of art, made by our community, for the lobsters of the North Sea.

🎨Earlier this year we invited artists of all ages to help create the 2027 calendar, and we were blown away by the talent and imagination in every entry. The front cover is a vibrant collage of lobsters in screenprint and poster paint, created by students aged 14–18 from the FLP Art group at Whitby School. Inside, you'll find Japanese watercolours, acrylic paintings, graphic art and even pyrography, where the image is burned by hand into wood.

🫶Every calendar sold directly supports our work. With the help of local fishing communities, we care for egg-carrying female lobsters, hatch their young safely here in Whitby, and release the juveniles back into the North Sea once past their most vulnerable life stages. We've now released more than 60,000 young lobsters, and your calendar helps us keep going.
