🎃 The highs and lows of farming! 🚜

With the rain we’ve recently had, it’s been fantastic to see the pumpkins continuing to emerge across the farm 🌱🙌

However, this time it’s not the weather we’re up against - it’s those pesky crows! 🐦 They’ve certainly been keeping us on our toes and just goes to show how important it is to keep our 'eye on the ball'.

Farming can be incredibly rewarding when everything goes right, but when it goes wrong it can be rather soul-destroying. That said, we’re counting our blessings. We still have a strong crop across the rest of the field and only a small area will need replanting when compared to the total acreage of pumpkins we grow. 💪🎃

That’s farming for you....every day is a school day, and there’s always a new challenge waiting around the corner!

🎃 And they are up, up and away! 🌱🚀

We’re a little late posting this update, but we started drilling our first fields last Tuesday and by Friday evening we spotted the first plants poking their heads above the soil!

That’s a germination period of just 3 days - probably the fastest we’ve seen since we started growing pumpkins seven years ago. 🙌

The hot temperatures meant the soil was very warm, and with just enough moisture still left in the ground, conditions were pretty much perfect. The result? A record-breaking germination rate! 🌱☀️

As long as everything goes to plan, we’ll be starting harvest in our wholesale fields in around 90 days’ time. When you put it like that, it really makes you realise just how quickly pumpkins grow! 🎃⏳

We’ll be keeping a close eye on them over the coming weeks and sharing plenty of updates as they grow.

🚜 Ground preparations are complete! 🌱🎃

Yesterday we finished preparing the ground at Silverton, which means both our Wellington PYO and Silverton PYO sites are now ready for drilling (planting) next week! 🙌

It certainly wasn’t easy going yesterday due to the ground being so hard, but we got there 💪

One step closer to Pumpkin Season 2026! 👀🍂

🚜 Back on the demolition path! 💥

Whatever you do on the farm, there’s always something breaking or going wrong! Some of it you can help…..and some of it you definitely can’t 😅

Luckily in this case, no harm done - the pipe was redundant and the subsoiler on the back of the tractor came away unscathed! 💪

On another note, a shout-out to King's College Taunton - whatever you do, don’t change your uniform supplier! My old school top is still going strong after 20+ years…..and not a hole in sight! 👕👏

We’re also really looking forward to welcoming King’s College Prep School back to our Wellington PYO site at Pitt Farm again this year 🎃🧡

🌧️ Hooray for the rain! ☔️🙌

We know it wasn’t the best timing with the bank holiday….but this is the UK after all! So after nearly being dry for a month, it was bound to rain!😅

From a farming point of view, we’ve been crying out for moisture ahead of drilling (planting) our spring crops over the coming weeks - including our all-important pumpkins 🎃🌱

And yes….we promise the puddle in the yard is real - along with the ducks of course! 🤥🦆😂

🚜 It’s safe to say things don’t always go to plan!

Just like Clarksons Farm (and any farm for that matter), we have our mishaps! As the saying goes…“the machinery doesn’t break in the shed.” 😅

Small setbacks like this often cost more in time and hassle than actual money - but that’s all part of the job and farm life! 💪🌱

On another note…I think it’s about time I get rid of the moths in the cupboard and treat myself to some new t-shirts! 👕😂I do hope Deborah Meaden is proud of my dedication to wearing my clothes for so long that they’re practically falling off me with all the holes in them!

🚜 It’s been a busy old time on the farm these past couple of weeks! 🌱

We’ve been out in the fields, working hard to prepare the soil for the all-important pumpkin planting in mid-May 🎃

With our acreage nearly doubled this year, it’s safe to say we’ve got plenty to keep us busy! 💪

Did you know - as well as our two PYO pumpkin sites, we also supply thousands of pumpkins across the country for Halloween events? From Northern Ireland right through to Scotland...we’ve got it covered!

🎃 Jolly Pumpkin 2025 — Over and Out!

From all of us here at Jolly Pumpkin, we just want to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU for yet another epic year — all made possible by YOU! 🧡

The barrel train didn’t stop all October, with plenty of little ones arriving as visitors and leaving as fully qualified tractor drivers and farmers! 🚜😄

Marshmallow toasting was a huge hit, though those jumbo mallows definitely took some eating! We saw plenty of sticky smiles (and a few marshmallow moustaches) around the patch! 🔥😋

A huge thank you to our fantastic Jolly Team of helpers this year, including the crew for serving up some of the best pizzas around, and .gecko.entertainment for their incredible bubbles and face paints. 🦄✨ Many a unicorn was created this season!

Creating memories is what we love to do and although we may not get it right all the time, we do certainly try.
