Storersmith Simmentals We have a small pedigree Simmental herd of which we are very proud. We aim to raise quality animals for breeding.

Our animals have an elite health status and have the added bonus of being very pretty! We are located on the Staffordshire Derbyshire border, close to the A50. We aim to raise quality pedigree Simmental cattle for breeding and showing. We have a Hi Health monitored herd, are free from BVD and Leptospirosis, johnes risk level 1 and the herd has been free from TB since its inception.

Whilst Treacle is used to being weighed and tied up, this walking-around-the-yard thing is a completely new experience. She is not entirely sure she is happy with it, and decided to sit for a while until a discussion on the finer details was had.

After negotiations, it was agreed that she would stand up and walk back to the safety of the others. It was not agreed she would do this in a ladylike way, neither was it agreed she would do it again next week.

And no amount of kissing will change her mind.

Popcorn is three weeks off her very first calving, and is pretty hacked off. She has the following queries, and would appreciate it if someone could provide some answers with all due haste.

Firstly, why is everyone else outside eating grass, and she is left in with only Navarone for company? He has terrible eating habits and snores. And he keeps looking at her.

Secondly, why did no one discuss the whole pregnancy thing in more detail? While she appreciates that her ‘get it here’ sign was certainly flashing, the consequences were not made clear. No one advised that getting up off the floor (or back down) would be nearly impossible or being comfortable would be out of the shed window for weeks. Or that her - let’s face it- glorious - shape would be replaced with a barrel. Her bump has its own postcode.

And what does ‘do you think it might be triplets’ mean? Because she’s heard it so many times in the past few weeks.

A selection of Navarone’s second set of calves. Last year was all heifers except for one bull, this year is all bulls except for two heifers with two to go. Missing Spitfire, who absolutely refused to pose.

Oldest born 3rd November, last on the 3rd January to show heifer Puzzle. And then there’s Treacle, the surviving twin to another heifer who didn’t make it. She arrived three weeks early, small and feisty, and hasn’t stopped eating since. Born 16th Jan, due date 4th Feb.

They are all an absolute riot. Cheeky, beautifully built, gorgeous to look at and currently on a halter training programme with varying degrees of cooperation

Last year was very heifer heavy, so this year is all about balancing.

Welcome to snowstorm, Spartacus, shockwave and starstruck making a total of six bulls, and our solitary but beautiful heifer, Strawberry.

It’s been a pretty frantic week here. Three new bull calves, largely arriving at unsociable hours designed to cause sleep deprivation, have meant less time to video heifers for Next Gen V.
Here are the two older girlies, both in calf to the 2025 English national champion. Pumpkin (red) and Popcorn (yellow) are just over two years old and due to calve in May.
