Fizzy wine bottle shots, we need bottle shots they tell us. So here we are out posing bottles in Walsingham Abbey Grounds.

The bank holiday is coming and with it some sunshine and surely time to pop a cork or two?

Bacchus Brut is our dry traditional method sparkling wine, made using the Bacchus grape.

Bacchus Demi-Sec is made in the same way but with a little little bit of sweetness. Everyone who’s given it a try likes it - even if they say they only like dry fizz. It’s amazing with strawberries and cake and ice cream - summery desserts in other words.

We’ve had a couple of truly freezing nights mitigated somewhat by our tractor-powered frost drain and gas powered fans.

During dazzling sunshiny spring days such as we had last week, the vine buds will swell and open, an exciting moment called ‘bud burst’. Unfortunately with plummeting temps at night down to minus 5 with clear skies and no wind there’s a strong chance the lovely new buds will have been zapped by frost. It’s hard to tell exactly how much damage has been wrought. Time will tell!

Meanwhile there’s an incredible amount of cheerful birdsong in the hedges surrounding the vineyard. There’s a crowd of tiny goldfinches, attracted by dandelion clocks of which there are plenty. These pretty little birds are small enough to perch on the wires and swoop down to feed on the dandelion.

Dandelions might be annoying weeds in your garden, but here they are not all bad. In the vineyard they are great for early foraging bees, provide green soil cover, flower and go to seed early (hence the flock of goldfinches feeding here) while their long tap roots open up the soil.

The vineyard seems to becoming a good place for farmland birds - on Sunday we counted ten species on the Merlin Bird ID app including linnets, chiffchaff, blackcaps and willow warbler.

We are taking part in the One Block Challenge. Lovely golden evening yesterday to be hunting bugs and plants in a tidy vineyard, all the vines now pruned and tied down.

Sun’s coming out and tomorrow we will be in Summer Time!
Time for something cold, sparkling and refreshing!

Our Bacchus Brut is a traditional method sparkling wine (champagne method of secondary fermentation in bottle), but made with the quintessential English white wine grape, bacchus, so totally non-trad as it’s not a champagne variety.

With hints of elderflower and gooseberry flavours and clean dry finish, Bacchus Brut is a gloriously English summery choice even on a dull day.

Very nice to finally drop in to the magnificent Norfolk Food Hall at the Norfolk Showground and to get a snap of our wines on the shelf! Exciting to see our Walsingham Estate Vineyard wines gradually becoming more widely known and available to buy across the county.

Hats off to the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association its supporters and sponsors who’ve established the food hall as a place to showcase all the excellent produce from across the county.

Reminds us that our own wonderful Walsingham Farms Shop has been championing Norfolk produce for almost 20 years now! Incredible! We must have a party….
