Astonishingly, I managed to find time for experimental baking last week, despite it being the final slog of the summer hols.
I firmly have one foot in the realm of old-fashioned, Victorian and wartime recipes, and the other in modern reinterpretations of those things, all the while trying to stay local and seasonal. I love researching the recipes as much as the baking (and eating!) itself.
As well as a good few yeasted buns, I made a sticky toffee flapjack, which was rather delicious, and these, Sussex sausage rolls- essentially sausage and caramelised onion baked into a bread roll. Don’t they look fab!
