Journey to Zero Waste
It isn't always easy to identify the moment something changes but like many people, the BBC Blue Planet documentary brought starkly home to us the real impact that plastic waste is having.
Of course we were already aware on a 'background' level and we talked about how sad it is and how we must do more as a 'household', dutifully taking our reusable carrier bags to the supermarket, feeling frustrated at the mounds of plastic packaging that we carried home and put into our recycling but feeling there wasn't much more we could do.
At the time, our nearest 'zero waste' shop was Earth, Food, Love in Totnes and we would try to get our 'pantry' goods from there to avoid the plastic, but that involved a near 2 hour round trip which seemed to defeat the object!
At some point, someone said "why don't you do something yourselves?"....... A daunting prospect and somewhat overwhelming but we started looking into it. During this research, I came across an article which read;
