Now in its 17th year, the much-loved North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival is returning to the Walled Garden on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September, 10am-4pm.

Alongside myself other Stallholders from across the county will be showcasing and selling products and produce including fresh meat and game, vegetables, cakes, preserves, artisan beer, local wines, breads, pastries, juices, chocolates, dog treats and so much more!

Just outside the main festival you’ll find an array of food trucks offering delicious drinks and lunches to eat on site, as well as entertainment ranging from a live cookery theatre to children’s activities and live music.

Ten years. I’m not quite sure how that happened.

Back in August 2016, after an EHO inspection and with handwritten labels on my jars, The Tealady officially began. There was no grand plan. I simply loved making good food and hoped people might enjoy it too.

Since then there have been an awful lot of jars, markets in the rain, Christmas fairs, food festivals, the Norfolk Show, Ely Cathedral and many more wonderful places along the way.

In 2018, a trip to Somerset to learn the proper art of marmalade making with Viv Lloyd began a love affair with marmalade that is still going strong. There have also been Great Taste stars and World Marmalade Awards, things I could never have imagined when I was sticking those first handwritten labels onto jars.

But when I look back over ten years, it isn’t really the awards or milestones that stand out.

It’s the people.

The fellow traders who became friends. The event organisers. The wonderful local food community and all the laughs, weather dramas and cups of tea shared along the way.

My family and friends have been there from the very beginning too, particularly the Tealad, who has been all in on this slightly mad preserving adventure.

And, of course, my customers. Whether you’ve bought my jam, chutney and marmalade at a market, through a stockist or online, I will never take for granted that you choose something I’ve made to take home to yours.

Ten years of The Tealady has brought opportunities I never expected, but more importantly, it has brought some truly lovely people into my life.

For that I feel incredibly fortunate.

Thank you for being part of it.

Did you know we can supply miniature Tealady jars too?

Our jam, chutney and marmalade are all available in lovely little individual jars, ideal when you want to add something locally made to a gift or event.

They work really well for corporate gifting, as part of hampers and food packages, alongside afternoon teas, or as a little addition to the table for weddings and other celebrations.

And because they’re miniature, they’re a simple way to include a little taste of The Tealady without needing a full-sized jar.

If you have something coming up and would like to include our miniatures, just get in touch and have a chat with us about what you need.

A lovely reminder this past weekend that some of the best things in life have absolutely nothing to do with work..

I spent Saturday evening at Wyken Vineyard celebrating my cousin’s birthday, with family and friends who had travelled from the UK and further afield to be there.

He’s built a successful business over the past 40 years, but what struck me most was everything around that. His first employee still works with him, his son is now part of the business and soon his grandson will be too. He’s stayed close to the village where we grew up, but has always remained curious about people, places and things he doesn’t yet know.

I think he might have cracked this living life thing.

There was another lovely moment too. I bumped into Anthea, who was the dinner lady at my primary school. I remember her always having a kind word for everyone, and all these years later, absolutely nothing has changed.

A weekend full of family, old faces, conversations and a reminder that the people we meet along the way really do stay with us.

The Tealady has THREE products through to the finals of the Great British Food Awards 2026!

🍊 Orange & Single Malt Marmalade
🧅 Red Onion & Fennel Marmalade
🍈 Greengage Jam

What makes this achievement mean even more is the company we’re keeping.

The Great British Food Awards are open to producers of all sizes, which means our preserves are being judged alongside products from major high street names and much larger retail brands, many with considerably more resources and even dedicated product development teams behind them.

And then there’s me. The Tealady. A small independent business, creating preserves in small batches, developing recipes and doing things very much my own way.

To have not one, but THREE products make it through the rigorous judging process and into the finals against that level of competition is something I’m incredibly proud of.

The winners will be announced in London on 6th October, so for now we wait, keep everything crossed and enjoy the fact that three little Tealady jars have earned their place amongst some of the biggest names in British food.

We often talk about preserves as if they only belong on toast or tucked inside a sandwich.

However, some of my best dishes start with a jar.

A spoonful of chutney stirred into a sauce can completely transform a simple lamb dish. A rich pickle can become the filling of a handmade samosa or sausage roll. A fruit preserve can lift a game pie, pair beautifully with sushi, or even find its way alongside artisan ice cream. It’s not the sidekick on the plate, It’s the ingredient that ties the whole meal together.

Our jars are made to be cooked with, experimented with and enjoyed in ways that go far beyond the obvious.

Every dish in these photographs started with exactly that idea. Not “what can we put this next to?” but “what can we create with it?”

We’d love to know… what’s the most unexpected way you’ve used one of our preserves?

Looking forward to updating the camera roll with some fresh images from the fabulous Victoria’s today as we head over to Ely for a delivery.

I’m not sure there’s a more beautiful setting for a fromagerie than Victoria’s shop. If you’re visiting Ely, make sure it’s on your list. It’s one of those places that’s every bit as good as you’ve heard.
