🌿 Conservation Grazing with Rare Breed Cattle 🐄
We’re proud to be using our rare breed British White cattle as part of our conservation grazing work here on the farm 🌱
Conservation grazing is all about working with nature — using livestock to help restore and maintain habitats like grasslands, meadows, and scrub. Rather than relying on machinery, our cattle play a vital role in shaping the landscape naturally.
Their grazing helps create a varied sward, allowing wildflowers and native plants to thrive, while their hooves gently disturb the soil, creating opportunities for new growth 🌼 Their dung also supports a whole host of insects, which in turn benefits birds and other wildlife.
Rare and native breeds are especially suited to this work. They are hardy, thrive on lower-quality forage, and have evolved to cope with the British climate and landscape — making them perfect conservation partners
By choosing rare breeds, we’re not only improving biodiversity but also helping to protect these important bloodlines for future generations. Many of these breeds are at risk, so every herd plays a part in keeping them going.
It’s a slower, more traditional way of farming — but one that delivers real benefits for wildlife, the land, and the animals themselves 🌍
We’re excited to be part of this journey and to see the positive impact our cattle are making.
