The Open Farm at Middle Farm

The Open Farm at Middle Farm Found at the foot of Firle Beacon on the South Downs in Sussex, Middle Farm is a 625 acre working family farm. With a hay play barn and under 5's play area!

Come and say hello to our animals, including the Highland Cows. Playful rabbits and guinea pigs. A giddying array of traditional and rare breed chickens. Huge pigs and tiny harvest mice. Lofty llamas, gorgeous goats, and fluffy sheep. We have a picnic area, a nature trail around the farm, and when you need to let off some steam we have two outdoor playgrounds as well as our highly popular hay play barn. We can also cater for educational visits.

We enjoyed a very busy and very hot half term here at Middle Farm.

Our Open Farm marked Bee Week, with a wide range of activities taking place throughout the week.
Visitors were able to enjoy face painting, sheep shearing demonstrations, and honey tasting with Little Bees Larder.

Our daily timetable was full of engaging activities, and we were pleased to introduce the opportunity for visitors to get to know our tortoises, which proved very popular!

It has also been an exciting time on the farm, with some new arrivals. We welcomed the birth of a calf, along with a number of newly hatched chicks, both of which have been a delight to see.

We would like to thank everyone who visited us during half term and we are already looking forward to the summer holidays!

12/05 until 23/05/2026- Due to the recent dry weather spells we are moving livestock between different fields to protect and manage grass growth – this is known as rotational grazing. Our Highland cows have temporarily been moved to a farther field off the farm trail. This means they are NOT currently visible to our visitors on the Open Farm – but will be again for May Half Term. Thank you for your understanding 🐂

May 8th marks National Donkey Day and we’re celebrating our gentle donkeys – Jenny, Poppy and Snowy.

Donkeys are not only incredibly strong and intelligent, but they’re also loyal companions with the sweetest personalities.

Did you know?
*They are desert creatures, which is why they prefer warm, dry environments.
*Their perceived "stubbornness" is actually a safety-conscious nature; they refuse to enter dangerous situations.
*They are highly social and can become depressed if kept alone.
*They have excellent memories, capable of recognizing other donkeys and humans for years.
