I’m back! Out the other side of a very busy weekend. We fed around 2000 people, breakfast, lunch, canapés and picnic bags. The South of England show is always a long weekend for us, 4.30am starts to cook fresh croissants and danish for the equestrian marquee and 10pm finishes by the time the next day prep is done. Throw in some wedding canapés too and I had to spend Monday in bed, everything ached and reminded me I’m getting older. Being knocked over by a pig and twisting my ankle didn’t help either!
Would we miss it? Of course not, every year I say never again but always do. It’s the people, the whole show environment. Animal people are just the best and all those giving their time to steward because they love the show and the countryside, it’s a pleasure to feed them. We laugh a lot, mainly at the groundsmen, we cry a bit, mainly at 4.30am, we feed people. I am lucky to have a wonderful team who work hard with smiles and prop me up.
This is the one and only photo I took, these doughnuts were tiny, one bite size, freshly fried and part of a mini Canape tea for the most beautiful wedding. It rained, it stormed but it was still glorious.
I’m still recovering but looking forward to another gorgeous event at another Sussex estate this weekend, I’ll try harder with the photos!
