Thats a wrap!

Siobhan, our guide, led the last tours of this season with lovely visitors from Arizona and New York. For so many of our guests, visiting the Hunter ancestral home is a long planned for trip. It's an acknowledgment of forebears who left Scottish shores for a new life. Whether the move was through choice or necessity, the pull to visit ancestral home land is strong.

We have reduced daylight hours and a change of weather - generally being colder and wetter during the autumn and winter months, so we close the booking calendar. If you would like to share pictures of your visit to Hunterston, please do, we love to see and share your photos.

We had 3 Jeff Hunters visit last week from Florida. Jeff senior, Jeff junior, and a very cute and well behaved 'J3'

We had lovely autumn sun for the visit, although perhaps it wasn't quite as warm as back home in Florida.

This young weasel was spotted on the road to Hunterston Castle yesterday. It stopped and allowed a photograph to be taken before disappearing into the long grass.

For those who want to know how to tell the difference between a Stoat and a Weasel -

A weasel is weasily recognised, and a stoat is stoatally different 😉

CJ and Sherry visited us today from Oregon. Both were interested to hear the story of the Bearing Sword.

The sword was used this year at the Clan Hunter Gathering, playing an important ceremonial role. The first time it had been used in hundreds of years.

Robert, Ted, Lori and Callay met Madam Pauline yesterday when they visited Hunterston Castle. They all experienced the best of Scottish weather yesterday - the sun shone for their visit.

Here are some of our lovely guests who visited Hunterston Castle this week. Connie visited with her family from Montana. It was a very special week for the family as Eric had proposed to Eleanor just days before♥️ On the right of the picture is Lesley and Marti who had travelled from Berkshire. Lesley is an experienced flute player and she demonstrated her skills on the hunting horn!

Jason Hunter and his wife, Sundee visited Hunterston Castle this week and were pleased to meet Madam Pauline, Clan Chief.

We’ve enjoyed a particularly good summer this year and Jason & Sundee enjoyed their visit, just before the rain started ☀️🌧️

The swifts and swallows have been nesting around Hunterston Castle. The parent birds have been giving flying lessons to their young. Last week visitors, went up to the parapet - we were surrounded by the birds swooping and wheeling over the roofs and grass.

They will leave (the birds not the visitors!) to go to back to sub-Saharan Africa. Making a journey of about 6000 miles, it will take them about 6 weeks. It’s incredible to think that their internal compass is pre programmed since they were developing in the egg.

Last week, Laurie and David visited from Iowa.
The tour of Hunterston Castle fulfilled a destination on their 'places to visit' wish-list. They were being carefully watched over by the Hunterston Stag in the Castle Great Hall.
