A bank holiday gathering… with a HOG ROAST! 🐷🔥

There’s nothing quite like a bank holiday for an excuse to get everyone together — and what better way to do it than with a proper Homegrown hog roast?!

We popped along to this beautiful Yorkshire home to feed a lovely little gathering. No wedding, no big occasion, no particular excuse… just friends, family, good food and a bank holiday! 🤩

And this one was extra special for us — we actually catered the couple’s wedding back in 2018, when I was very heavily pregnant and about to have Dotty! 🥹

Fast forward a few years and we’re back, this time serving up a hog roast for their bank holiday get-together.

We absolutely love these full-circle moments. ❤️

Apple tart tatin, blackberry sauce, calvados cream

Makes 4

Equipment
1 4 hole large Yorkshire pudding tin.

Ingredients:
250g butter, grated and frozen
330g plain flour
120ml ice cold water
Pinch salt
2 good size Granny Smith apples
125g sugar
75ml dbl cream
K**b butter
200g blackberries
Sugar to taste
Spoon crème de cassis
100g mascarpone
100ml dbl cream
Icing sugar
calvados

1. Make pastry by combining butter and flour and adding water and bring to a dough. Rest 1/2hr, roll to about £1 coin thick cut into rounds about 1cm bigger than tin rounds
2. Make caramel by melting sugar in a pan, don’t stir and careful not to burn, add cream and remove from heat. Add butter.
3. Peel and slice apples into about 3ml thick pieces
4. Line each hole in tin with parchment. Pour about 1tbsp caramel over each.
5. Line up apple and place over caramel
6. Cover with pastry, tucking in round the apple. Egg wash
7. Bake in oven at 180 degrees about 20 mins
8. Make blackberry sauce, blitz blackberries in blender and pass through a sieve into a pan.
9. Add sugar to dissolve and crème de cassis to taste, reduce to thicken
10. Make cream by combining mascarpone with cream, add sugar and calvados to taste.
11. Serve generously!

At this time of year, when we’re all feeling a little bit pooped, it’s the relationships we have within our team and with everyone we meet that really keep us going. ❤️

Our very own Alice was absolutely thrilled to be invited to the Harrogate Food & Drink Show to take to the stage and host a live food demo on Sunday! 👩‍🍳✨

A huge congratulations to Laura & Luke, who tied the knot earlier this month at Alexander Weddings | Lake Henry | Tipi Wedding Venue. 🤍

Their celebration was all about bringing people together over incredible food. Guests enjoyed our signature snackapes before sitting down to a relaxed two-course sharing feast, finishing on a sweet high with these beautiful homemade pavlovas and profiteroles. ✨

It was such a joy to be part of your special day. Laura & Luke, thank you for trusting us to help create such wonderful memories. We wish you a lifetime of love, laughter and happiness together. ❤️
