Nicholson Butchers Nicholson’s of Whitley Bay is an award winning butchers' in the North East of England.

The shop was founded in 1914 has relied heavily on local Northumbrian Produce to build the establishment and achieve a great reputation in the world of independent meat and butchery. Building and maintaining a strong relationship with local Northumbrain farmers who are passionate about the animals they raise and truly care about fresh produce is one of the key elements to the success of Nicholson’s. Quality and provenance is second to none and almost everything in the shop is prepared in house. It is the place to visit for the very best in home dining; with a range of products including – Homemade Pies prepared fresh everyday, Northumbrian beef and lamb sourced direct from local farms, homemade sausages prepared by our skilled butchers. Summer BBQ packs catering for a range of numbers including the charcoal and BBQ delivered to your venue along with fresh turkeys and all the trimmings for your perfect Christmas Day.

NEW! Beef Bourguignon Pie 🥧

A little taste of France, made right here in Whitley Bay!

Introducing our NEW Beef Bourguignon Pie, packed with tender, slow-cooked Northumbrian beef in a rich, flavoursome Bourguignon sauce with smoky bacon lardons and mushrooms, all encased in our homemade, beautifully crisp hot water crust pastry.

Wondering what to serve it with? We love it with creamy buttery mash, tenderstem broccoli or seasonal greens, and perhaps a little extra gravy for good measure!

Whether it's a comforting midweek treat or something delicious to enjoy over the weekend, this is proper comfort food at its best.

🥂An incredible evening hosted 🥂

Last night, we had the pleasure of collaborating with District W**e, pairing five of our delicious dishes with five gorgeous wines in their fabulous bottle shop, just around the corner from us on Park View!

What an incredible little venue and such a brilliant evening to be part of. We were absolutely delighted to be asked to collaborate, bringing together great food, wonderful wines and lovely company!

It was so nice to see some familiar faces and meet lots of new ones too.

A huge thank you to the team at District W**e for inviting us along and to everyone who joined us. We loved every minute!

A little bit about us… 💚

Nicholson’s has been part of Whitley Bay since 1914, and more than 110 years later, we’re still incredibly proud to be doing what we do best: traditional butchery, great food and looking after our customers.

Now in our fourth generation, we’re a family business with a brilliant team of skilled butchers, bakers and food-loving people behind everything you see in our shop.

🥩 We buy whole carcass beef, pork and lamb and butcher traditionally here in store.
🌾 We work with fantastic farmers and suppliers, with a real focus on provenance and quality.
🔪 Our beef is dry aged for a minimum of 21 days.
🥧 Our bakery team makes our pies, quiches, sausage rolls, Scotch eggs and much more right here above the shop.
🌭 We make our own sausages and burgers, prepare our own ready meals and continually develop new products for our counters.

But Nicholson’s has never just been about what we sell.

For us, it’s about Quality, Consistency & Customer Service.

It’s knowing our products, taking pride in our craft, helping you choose the right cut, giving you cooking advice and making sure you leave with something you’re genuinely looking forward to eating.

We reckon everyone has their favourite… are you a good old spag bol family? A big bubbling lasagne? Mince and dumplings when the weather turns chilly? Cottage pie? Chilli? Meatballs? 🌶️🍝

At Nicholson’s, our beef comes from Northumbrian farms and is traditionally butchered here in store by our skilled team. We butcher whole carcasses, which means we know exactly what is going into our mince and can make sure it has the quality, flavour and consistency we’re looking for.

🥩 Dry-Aged Rib of Beef on the Bone

There’s something pretty special about a rib of beef on the bone, and ours starts with carefully selected Northumbrian beef, sourced from farms across our region.

Back at Nicholsons, we give the beef the time and attention it deserves. Our ribs are dry-aged for a minimum of 21 days, allowing the meat to naturally mature, intensifying the flavour and improving tenderness.

Our skilled butchers then prepare each rib traditionally, keeping it on the bone for fantastic flavour and a real centrepiece roasting joint.

Great beef isn’t rushed. From the farmers who rear the cattle to the way we mature and butcher it here at Nicholsons, care and attention goes into every stage.

Made right here at Nicholsons by our skilled butchery team, our sausages are made in store in small batches, using quality pork and plenty of flavour.
