SCOTCH EGGS

Our homemade Scotch Eggs have become a bit of a Nicholsons favourite… and once you’ve tried one, it’s easy to see why.

Made by hand in our in house bakery using our famous pork sausage recipe, each one is packed with flavour and made properly from start to finish by our team.

Black Pudding

They’re one of those products that work for almost any occasion. Perfect for packed lunches, picnic spreads, picky tea dinners, BBQ tables or just a quick grab and go snack after work when you open the fridge and spot one waiting there.

Our personal favourite? The caramelised onion scotch egg warmed through slightly and served with homemade coleslaw and salad for lunch. Absolute game changer.

Crispy crumb, perfectly cooked egg and proper sausage meat made the traditional way. Simple food done properly.

Happy Birthday to the main man himself… Mr Nicholson 🎉

Today Doug celebrates his birthday and although he may be pretty much “retired”, he is still very much a face we see in the business almost every day.

Whether he’s popping in to collect treats for his beloved Labrador Ava, checking what’s going on behind the counter or offering a helping hand wherever it’s needed, safe to say Nicholson’s is still very much part of everyday life for him.

Thankfully these days there’s also a little more time for holidays, socialising and enjoying life away from the shop too… although we’re not entirely convinced he knows how to fully switch off just yet.

Doug has dedicated so much of his life to Nicholson’s, helping shape the business into what it is today and continuing the family tradition with enormous pride, care and hard work.

And honestly… if we look half as good as Doug when we reach 74, we’ll all be delighted.

What goes into your perfect bolognese? 🍝

Are you a 100% beef mince household… or do you prefer a mix of beef and pork like our ragu mince for extra richness and flavour?

Do you keep it traditional, or do you have a secret ingredient that takes it to another level?

A splash of red wine?
Parmesan rind slowly melted into the sauce?
A touch of milk for richness?
Smoked pancetta?
A spoon of marmite?
A dash of Worcestershire sauce?
Slow cooked for 4 hours until the whole house smells incredible?

We think the perfect bolognese starts with proper mince, cooked low and slow with onions, carrots, celery, garlic, tomatoes, red wine and plenty of patience.

Serve it with fresh pasta, parmesan piled high and maybe a chunk of buttered bread to mop the bowl clean.

Our steaks are dry aged for a minimum of 21 days to create incredible flavour, tenderness and depth. Whether you love a ribeye, sirloin, fillet or rump, there’s nothing quite like a really good steak dinner at the end of the week.

And the best bit? We’ve got everything else you need to turn it into a full feast.

Pick up a bottle of red wine or some fizz, then have a look in our jam packed fridges for homemade sides including potato wedges, deluxe garlic mushrooms, roasted vegetables with feta or halloumi and our ever popular salt & pepper tenderstem broccoli.

Just a little reminder that we are closed today for the Bank Holiday Monday.

After a very busy weekend in the shop, today is all about spending some quality time with our families, recharging the batteries and getting ready for another busy week ahead.

Thank you so much for all of your support over the Bank Holiday weekend. Seeing the shop busy, the BBQ packs flying out and so many of you choosing to shop local genuinely means the world to us.
