🎉 COMPETITION WINNER TIME!

Over the past week, many of you entered our "Guess How Many Scones We've Sold" competition to celebrate our first birthday, and we loved reading all of your guesses!

The Avenue Cafe has sold an incredible 9,652 scones during our first year! 🫖❤️

From fruit and cheese to sweet treats and seasonal specials, it's safe to say you've all kept us busy!

Congratulations to Jean whose guess of 8,000 was the closest and has won Coffee and Cake for Two! 🥂🍰

Thank you to everyone who entered and, more importantly, thank you for supporting our little cafe over the last twelve months. Every scone, every coffee and every conversation has helped turn The Avenue into the warm and welcoming neighbourhood cafe we dreamed of creating.

A new summer special has arrived at The Avenue Cafe ☀️
Our loaded potato skins have now had a well-earned rest, and this week we're bringing a proper comfort-food favourite to the specials board...

🥧 Homemade Ham & Egg Pie, Served with chips, And a side of beans!
Made the traditional way and served just how you'd expect from us... simple, hearty and delicious!

Whether you're stopping by after the cinema, meeting friends for lunch or just fancy something comforting, we'd love to see you.

As always, all of your favourite breakfasts, lunches, fresh bakes, milkshakes and ice creams are still available too.

Summer at The Avenue Cafe… it's only just begun. 💙

❤️ Well, that's our birthday week complete… and what a wonderful week it has been.

Thank you to everyone who came to visit, shared their good wishes and congratulations, and to those who surprised us with cards and gifts too. It was all incredibly thoughtful and kind, and we are so grateful.

To those who have only recently discovered us, thank you for choosing to spend your time with us. And to those who knew us long before The Avenue opened its doors, thank you for your continued support and for following us on this journey. It means more than you know.

A gentle reminder that we're only able to be here because you choose to visit us. It's very much a two-way relationship, and one that we hope continues to grow for many years to come. Some of you who first walked through our doors as customers are now good friends, and we've made some truly special connections along the way.

As a community coming together over good food and good company, we really do believe that love and memories are best served at the table. ☕❤️

One of the things that brightens our day most is seeing familiar faces chatting with new faces, people sharing tables, striking up conversations and friendships, and everyone feeling welcome.

We are incredibly proud of what The Avenue has become and truly believe that, with your help, we have created something special...
a safe, friendly and homely place where everyone is welcome.

Thank you for helping us turn our little cafe into something much bigger than just somewhere to eat.

Do you want to back your favourite venue, help your high street and support local jobs? Then sign our petition to lower the rate of VAT for hospitality to 10%.

Our pubs, restaurants, cafes, hotels, nightclubs and many more, are at the heart of our communities.

They bring people together and bring life to our cities, towns and villages, but they're under huge pressure from rising costs.

In the UK, you pay one of the highest VAT rates in Europe. 20% extra in VAT for your meal out or stay away. In France, Spain and Italy, it's 10%. In Germany? 7%.

Our message to Government is simple. Let's stand together to say VAT at 10% is fair for hospitality.

🍽️ HELP HOSPITALITY BE HEARD 🍽️

Okay, so we really need your help!

Did you know that UK's hospitality VAT rate is 20% ? One of the highest in Europe!!

That means that one sixth of every meal, coffee, cake, pint or hotel stay goes straight to HMRC in VAT!

Meanwhile, countries such as France, Spain and Italy charge 10%, helping their hospitality sectors invest more in jobs, businesses and communities.

At a time when our towns, high streets and neighbourhoods need more places that bring people together, many hospitality businesses believe the current rate is simply too high.

Cafés, pubs, restaurants and hotels aren't just businesses. They're places of conversation, friendship, celebration, support and kindness. They create jobs, support local suppliers and help keep our communities thriving!

That's why hospitality businesses across the UK are backing a campaign to reduce hospitality VAT to 10%.

This isn't about one business, it's about supporting an industry that sits at the heart of so many communities.

Well, we're finally home after a very busy birthday at The Avenue Cafe! ❤️

Our birthday cake was absolutely demolished, and it was so lovely to see so many people enjoying a slice and sharing our special day with us.

Thank you for all the kind messages, cards and thoughtful gifts. We really do have the loveliest customers, and we feel incredibly lucky to have celebrated our first birthday surrounded by so many familiar faces.

As the cafe is looking so lovely, we've decided the balloons and bunting are staying up until the weekend… why not!

A huge thank you also to our wonderful in-house baker for creating our giant funfetti sprinkle cake. Everyone said it was delicious… and we may have enjoyed a slice or two ourselves! 😉

Now it's time to put our feet up, enjoy a well-earned cuppa, and reflect on what a lovely day it's been.

It's getting exciting… our birthday is tomorrow!

We've just got home after an evening spent putting up balloons and bunting, and our baker is busy baking our birthday cake ready to share with you all tomorrow.

As we finished up and switched off the lights tonight, we couldn't help but reflect on what an incredible first year it's been.
We've met so many wonderful people, shared countless coffees and conversations, and watched The Avenue grow into the little neighbourhood cafe we always hoped it would become.

Thank you so much for supporting us, encouraging us and helping turn The Avenue into a home from home.

We can't wait to celebrate with you tomorrow and share lots of thank yous in person.

🎉 ONE YEAR OF THE AVENUE CAFE 🎉

On Wednesday 10th June, we celebrate our first birthday.

Looking back at these photos, it's hard to believe how much has happened in just one year. From paint charts, ladders and empty rooms... to fresh coffee, homemade cakes, comforting meals and a cafe full of conversation.

What started as a dream has become something far more special than we ever imagined 💙

We've had the pleasure of meeting so many new faces, welcoming back so many familiar ones, and watching The Avenue become the neighbourhood cafe we hoped it could be. A place for coffee mornings, lunch dates, family catch-ups, dog walks, celebrations and everyday moments.

Thank you for supporting us, encouraging us, recommending us, bringing your friends and family, and helping turn The Avenue into the warm, welcoming community space it is today. We simply couldn't have done it without you.
