We’re really pleased with the growth of our sea buckthorn stand this year.

We’re growing primarily to harvest its berries but it also makes a good windbreak.

The berries are astringent but with a tropical flavour packed with nutrients. We aim to use them for juices etc.

Lovely harvest of squash, sweet potato and lemon drop chillies headed to our local bakery and cafe.

While digging the sweet potatoes we found a nest of smooth newts nestled between the tubers. We’ve re-covered the area and left them them to it.

Common lizard on our woodchip pile.

We see them regularly around our house, encouraging them by providing log piles, sheltered areas and basking spots.

Making a small batch of chilli sauce this afternoon with all the produce coming from the plot.

Feels great to be locking down the harvest. Another cut of squash today. This is around half of it. We’re waiting on some blue banana and butternut squash to mature before bringing inside to cure.

This years crop from our almond tree. In its second year, we removed all but ten fruit early in the season so it could focus on growth.

Nothing like the taste of an almond fresh from the tree. This one has a strong marzipan vibe going on.

Finished the first compost bay and have begun filling.

The construction might seem massive overkill but compost is the most important thing we make here.

As this bin is rat proof we’ll put the composting material most attractive to them here (think overstood marrows etc)

That’s the first of our squash harvested. Plenty more where these came from

Framing up the new compost bays. They will have front hinged doors and a lid.

We wanted a pest free environment so have wrapped it all round with 6mm aviary mesh.
