The Evolution of the Humble Home Drinking Water System đź’§

When I first started in this industry, a “drinking water system” usually meant a small tap on the side of the sink, connected to the hard water supply through a simple carbon filter.

It gave beautifully crisp water for cold drinks — but when it came to tea and coffee? Not so great. The calcium was still there, so limescale was still a problem.

Every now and then, customers would ask for something called “RO.”
The proper name is Reverse Osmosis — a process that uses a membrane to separate pure water from dissolved minerals and impurities.

We installed plenty of them. And while they produced incredibly clean water, they had their downsides:

Slow flow rates

Limited storage capacity

And, let’s be honest… not the prettiest things to look at

The next step forward was an RO system with a built-in pump, all neatly contained in one box.
It was more efficient and far better visually — but still restricted by delivery capacity.

So what did we really want?

An RO system that:

Delivers continuous, super-clean water

Provides strong flow rates (fill saucepans and jugs without waiting!)

Has minimal waste

Looks great in your kitchen

That’s exactly why we developed our Signature Range.

✨ 2.5 litres per minute
✨ Continuous supply
✨ Exceptionally pure water
✨ Optional mineral rebalancing for incredible taste

And when paired with one of our stylish three-way taps, you get a seamless, elegant solution — clean, great-tasting water for the whole family, straight from your kitchen sink.

Clean water has come a long way… and we’re proud to be part of that evolution.

One additional benefit of these modern RO systems is we can now pair them with our Quooker boiling taps.

Hard water is simply a fact of life in Dorset—but living with the limescale doesn’t have to be.

A properly fitted water softener can mean less time spent cleaning taps and shower screens, no more scale building up in the kettle, and better protection for the appliances and plumbing throughout your home.

We’ve been installing and looking after water softeners across Dorset for many years. Because we aren’t tied to one manufacturer, we can give you honest advice and recommend the machine that genuinely suits your home, your water use and the space available.

From the initial visit to installation, salt deliveries and future servicing, everything is handled by our own local team.

If you’re thinking about softened water but aren’t sure where to begin, give us a call. We’re always happy to talk it through—without the hard sell.

Did You Know?
We have water softeners in our range that only use one bag of salt per person per YEAR. You could be saving 100's of pounds a year.
Many people wrongly assume that either all water softeners use the same amount of salt or that non-electric block softeners are the most efficient. Both of these are incorrect and so we wrote a helpful guide to help people.

Three Years Supporting DocBike Dorset – Investing in a Safer Motorcycling Community
What a fantastic day for Dorset charities.

The day started in Poole, where we joined the Harry Paye Charity Event riding with the Top Hatters and supporting one of Dorset's most popular community fundraising events. From there, we headed across to Dorset Bike Fest, where Dorset Water Softeners was proud to hand over its latest donation to DocBike Dorset.
This year marks our third year of supporting DocBike Dorset, and throughout that time we have tried to fund projects that create a lasting benefit for the charity.
Over the past three years we have:
• Funded a second event gazebo to help the charity increase its presence at motorcycle events and shows.
• Helped launch and support the Children's Mini Bike Raffle, creating an engaging fundraising activity for younger visitors.
• Designed and funded an online events and ride-location platform, helping riders discover events and great places to visit.
• This year, funded two contactless Tap-to-Donate systems and all associated equipment after recognising that traditional collection tins are becoming less effective as fewer people carry cash.
The new donation terminals will allow supporters to contribute quickly and easily at events across Dorset, helping the charity continue its vital work.
One of the reasons we enjoy working with DocBike Dorset is that they are always focused on practical solutions that make a genuine difference. Their combination of rider education, collision prevention and emergency medical expertise has a real impact on the motorcycling community.
It was therefore a complete surprise and a real honour to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from Dr Ian Mews and the DocBike Dorset team during Dorset Bike Fest. Recognition is never expected, but it was very much appreciated.
At Dorset Water Softeners, we believe local businesses should play an active role in supporting the communities around them. Whether that is through financial support, practical assistance or simply helping charities solve problems, we are proud to be involved.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in both the Harry Paye Charity Event and Dorset Bike Fest for making the day such a success, and to the volunteers who give up so much of their time to support these fantastic causes.
