🥂🍾 Whenever Iris is travelling, she packs a bottle or two of thirst-quenching wine to enjoy with dinner. This time, her travel companions are Allendorf's 2024 Save Water Drink Riesling dry and Bercher's 2020 Burkheimer Schlossgarten Villinger Grauburgunder Grand Cru dry.
Weingut Familie Allendorf's Riesling, from the Rheingau region, is an easy drinking dry white wine for the everyday. Fun in a glass, it has a playful lightness and fine fruity aromas.
Weingut Bercher's Grauburgunder, from the Baden region, is an immensely velvety Pinot Gris. It has an elegant fruity bouquet with notes of pineapple and pear, and a highly harmonious acidity.
Talented wine writer Tamlyn Currin (part of the Jancis Robinson team), describes this VDP.Die Prädikatsweingüter Grauburgunder as,
"Daphne and bluebell florals, a touch of honeysuckle, and then the most gorgeous flood of fruit and sweet acidity. Really ripe orchard stone fruit. Leaves my mouth absolutely zinging with life. This has opened up to be a bit of a showstopper. Touch of cobnuts, something green and creamy - avocado-like, nutty. But the fruit is what steals the show. And the energy!"

Our June wine selection showcases three of the UK's favourite summer styles - Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir - with a distinctly German twist.

Our MD Iris (centre) was delighted to visit ROW on 5 London and introduce Head Sommelier Junlee and his colleagues Josh and Lilly, alongside Wine Director Roxanne, to an exceptional selection of Germany’s finest wines.
Nestled on London’s iconic Savile Row, the two-Michelin-starred restaurant delivers an unforgettable dining experience. Led by acclaimed Chef Jason Atherton and Executive Chef Spencer Metzger, the restaurant is renowned for its 15-course British-Japanese tasting menu - a multi-floor culinary journey where every course tells a story.
The team explored an impressive collection of wines from some of Germany’s most celebrated producers, including Weingut Friedrich Becker, Weingut Bercher, Weingut Bischel, Weingut Grans-Fassian, K. F. Groebe, Weingut Kranz, Weingut Meyer-Näkel, Weingut Hans Wirsching and Weingut Schloss Reinhartshausen. A blend of Dornfelder, Acolon, and Meunier grapes, this cuvée comes from the family-owned winery of Fritz Friedrich Wilhelm Becker Junior and his family. The Weingut Friedrich Becker story began with Friedrich Becker Senior, who became the first in his family to stop selling grapes to the local co-op and instead produce wines under his own name. Since taking over in 2005, Friedrich Junior has continued the family legacy with wines full of freshness, character, and precision.

🥂 Weingut Schloss Reinhartshausen winery owner Stefan Lergenmüeller (right) hosted a wine tasting and dinner at the Royal Yacht Squadron, with the support of Prince Nicholas von Preussen (centre) and his son Prince Fritzi von Preussen (left).
Renowned for its legendary Rieslings since 1337, Schloss Reinhartshausen in the Rheingau region of Germany, is one of the oldest wine making estates in the world. Rich in history, the estate was previously owned by the Preussen royal family for over 130 years (1855–1987). Schloss Reinhartshausen was then taken over by the "Freunde von Reinhartshausen" (Friends of Reinhartshausen) investment group, until the Lergenmüller family acquired the estate in 2013. The estate is now a member of the VDP.Die Prädikatsweingüter - Germany's association of elite wine producers - and a mark of quality.
The Cowes-based yacht club on the Isle of Wight, provided the perfect venue for an enjoyable evening of tasting their range of organic Rieslings, as well as their Spätburgunders (Pinot Noirs).

🥂Silvaner Wine Meets Seafood Ravioli with Langoustine Tails - A Sensational Pairing
Weingut Hans Wirsching's 2022 Iphöfer Kronsberg Silvaner Alte Reben Premier Cru dry is from their VDP.Die Prädikatsweingüter classified Iphöfer Kronsberg vineyard - one of the most highly regarded vineyards in the Franconian region. This wine is presented in the region's traditional Boxbeutel-style bottle. Kronsberg wines are characterised by fine fruit flavours, harmony and elegance, and Wirsching are renowned for being an exceptional Silvaner producer.
Tamlyn Currin, wine writer for Jancis Robinson, awarded this wine an impressive 17.5 out of 20 points.
She describes it as, "The canon of Silvaner. A wine that has its own forcefield, its own electric current. Fragmented flavours vibrating at the speed of light, spinning into a blur of a whole. It’s pomelo and citron, green apple and mizuna and shiso. It’s shiveringly fresh and has so much minty bite that it’s like a cup of fresh peppermint tea followed by fresh-leaf- spearmint sorbet. Extraordinary minty intensity! The wine is a shock of cold green carrying a core of tomorrow’s honey and gold. You could drink a bottle every year from now for 10 years and I would put money on the fact that every bottle will be thrilling, and different."

🍇🍝🍷Spätburgunder and Spaghetti Carbonara -
Highly Complimentary Companions
Weingut Kranz's 2022 Arzheimer am Fürstenweg Spätburgunder Premier Cru is a dry red wine rich in red fruit flavours such as sour cherry and currant. It has a concise chalky minerality, with a fresh acidity, long finish and fine tannins. Aromatic and intense, yet harmonious, it completes a creamy pasta dish.
This Spätburgunder is from Kranz's organic Arzheimer am Fürstenweg vineyard, situated on the slope of "Kleine Kalmit" in the Pfalz region of Germany. Kleine Kalmit translates to "Little Bald Mountain" in German.
A VDP.Die Prädikatsweingüter classified winery, the Kranz family prioritise working with mother nature and practice sustainable viticulture. As such, their winery is FairChoice certified.

The WineBarn's MD Iris Ellmann, and her sons Mika (left) and Luca (right), are visiting Hungary this weekend. They are, of course, enjoying sampling some of the local wine varieties, including Furmint and Kékfrankos.
However, no weekend is complete without a glass or two or their favourite wine - Riesling!
So, Luca has brought a little something from home - a refreshing bottle of VDP.Weingut Knebel's 2024 Von den Terrassen Riesling dry, which they will enjoy sharing together this evening.
This dry Riesling has a minerality that is reflective of its unique Terrassenmoselle terroir, in the Mosel region. A full bodied dry white wine, it has spicy notes. The grapes were sustainably grown in the slate rich soil, and hand picked from several terraced VDP.Die Prädikatsweingüter classified vineyards around the village.
