Continuing with the hop farm tours... Featuring 'Sovereign' Hops this time.

'We began our second day of visits by meeting Colin Pudge, owner of Brook House Farm. Whilst keeping in line with the standard mixture of cider apples, beef cattle and Christmas trees that one can expect from Herefordshire's farms, Colin also specialises in growing hedgerow hops. These varieties only grow a couple of metres tall — ordinary hops can reach 6! — and are, by all accounts, really tricky to develop.

However, the proof is in the pint! We've loved using Colin's Sovereign hops to brew our premium golden ale of the same name, imbuing every sip and sup with a sweet marmalade and slightly spiced aroma'.

Sometimes the best beers come from the mistakes you didn’t plan for…

Back in 2013, a little mix-up with some malt meant we accidentally brewed a beer that was never supposed to exist. The result? Pig’s Ear – a 5.2% copper-coloured bitter that went on to become a surprise hit!
