🍎🐷 The apple feast continues! 🐷🍎

Our pigs are still absolutely loving all the apples that so many of you have kindly donated — they certainly know a good treat when they see one! We have had so many this year, the pigs are still happily munching their way through them and making the most of everyone’s generosity.

With Bluetongue continuing to cause serious problems for farmers, particularly across the South and now with cases being reported in Scotland too, we’ve been getting our own sheep and cattle vaccinated.
It’s a worrying time for livestock farmers, and we really feel for those already dealing with the impact of the disease. Bluetongue can have a huge effect on animal health, productivity and ultimately the livelihoods of farming families.
We’re doing what we can to give our animals the best protection possible and will continue to monitor the situation closely and follow the latest advice.

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Life on the farm wouldn’t be the same without our four-legged friends. From keeping us company on early morning rounds to helping move livestock and never missing a chance to ride on the trailer, they’re part of the team every single day.

Whether they’re working dogs or simply the best companions, they earn their keep with loyalty, enthusiasm and plenty of muddy paws.

Here’s to all the dogs who make every day that little bit better. We’d love to see yours too—share a photo in the comments!

Happy pigs in their new improved pen!
They’ve been busy digging up the soil, exploring the undergrowth and, of course, making full use of their lovely mud hole. There’s nothing quite like watching them happily rooting around and getting stuck into the natural environment. With plenty of trees and undergrowth, they have lots of shade to retreat to, while their wallowing in the mud also helps protect their skin from sunburn and keeps them cool on these warmer days.
It’s great to see them doing what pigs naturally do — rooting, exploring, digging and wallowing. ❤️🐷

The pigs pens have been getting a big upgrade!

Over the past week we’ve been busy improving our woodland pig pens to create an even better environment for our Oxford Sandy and Black pigs.

Unfortunately, ash dieback has meant removing a number of diseased and fallen ash trees to make the area safe. The remaining Oak trees have been given more space and light to help them grow into big and healthy trees. We have been able to completely re-fence the pens using stock fencing and electric wire to keep the pigs secure while they roam.

We’ve also been creating shelters, wallows and plenty of muddy areas—just how pigs like it! With lots of woodland undergrowth to root through and dig up, they’ll be able to express their natural behaviours while helping manage the woodland at the same time.

We can’t wait to move them into their newly improved woodland home!

The latest TB test has brought us some much-needed good news – our herd has tested clear.

After further examination of the animals that reacted at our last test, no TB lesions were found, meaning it’s most likely they did not have TB after all.

While we’re incredibly relieved, this experience has highlighted just how difficult and stressful TB testing can be for farming families. Waiting for results, losing healthy animals, movement restrictions, and the uncertainty all take a huge emotional and financial toll.

We’ll continue with regular TB testing as required and hope for many more clear results in the future. We know many other farmers are still facing this battle, and our thoughts are with them.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in on us and offered support—it has meant a great deal. Here’s hoping for healthier herds and brighter days ahead.

Straw making is well underway!

As well as keeping plenty back for our own animals, making deep, warm beds for the winter months, we also have straw available for sale.

Our straw is long in length, making it ideal for creating big, fluffy, comfortable beds for livestock. Once baled, it’s stored safely in the barn, keeping it dry and in excellent condition.

Available in:
🌾 Small square bales
🌾 Large round bales

If you’re looking to stock up for the winter or need straw sooner, get in touch with Alex on 07780 165462.

You can’t beat a spell of good haymaking weather!

We’re making the most of these dry days to make plenty of quality hay for our customers. With the sun shining and the crop drying well, it’s shaping up to be a cracking season.

Small bales and large round bales are both available.

If you’re needing hay, give us a shout – we’d be happy to help.
