This is meadowsweet.
I have been waiting for this ever since the sweet woodruff died down a little. If you are after a vanilla-like, fragrant and warmly encouraging flavour (yes, I do think flavours affect our mood! Who doesn’t want to get active after a hit of lemon or lime?), then give this a go.

I am going for an infused custard base for ice cream (strawberries anyone?) but also considering infusing milk for a cake…

From piles of fluff to little sculptures!
It amazes me that a simple, repetitive action of pushing a barbed needle in and out can take such solid form.

Time, attention and perseverance are also important ingredients, of course! These are made to order (they take so long to make that I never manage to hold any in stock!!).

Based on our first born alpaca at the farm, Willow and young Dill, one of the yearlings.

Meet Brown Bear.
She’s an enthusiastic member of the team - particularly when feeding hay to the alpacas!

She is recovering from a nasty rook attack which left her with a wound on her back. We’ve been cleaning and dressing it daily but needed a solution cover it so that the rooks wouldn’t be tempted to try again… ta da!

Little Bean comes to say hello!

The littles are a friendly little bunch and I thought it was time we had a Bean update.
He is still the tiniest of the gang, despite being the oldest. But he handled shearing like a pro and holds his own in the herd.
He often joins our walking now and loves a graze on the top field.
He has done so well. We can’t quite believe he’s still here, but having made it past his first birthday, perhaps we can relax! As much as you ever can with a herd of alpacas…

Love a new cook book and I am sorry to say I hadn’t come across before!
There is such an easy, conversational style to this book. And the sections both make sense and are seasonal - from the aspirational “with a table cloth” vibe to the more everyday “on the sofa”.

I haven’t done a test bake/cook yet (only arrived today!) but will do in the next couple of days (yes, the recipes are that appealing!!) and already looking at the herbs in the farm garden. It’s a book that embraces herbs and spices.

Now drinking lemon verbena tea in the garden and reading again!

A bit of a tangled herd of littles here!

Yes, that is Bean’s head on top of best buddy, Mallow. Shiso is rising above it all.
