Back from the butcher's and in the shop now. Fresh beef and pork.

We are often asked where we get our meat from? All our meat is our own. Born and reared right here. This week's beef is Jersey x Longhorn and our pork is from our rare breed Middle White pigs.

I've been promising many of you an update on 'Alan' the last calf we had born to Alice. When Alan was born he couldn't stand. Generally calves get up soon after being born, and start trying to suckle. Unfortunately Alan wasn't quite right on his legs. Day one, he couldn't stand at all, but was keen to suckle, so we fed him his very important colostrum from a bottle, by day two he could stand while being held by one of us and was able to feed from Alice, who was incredibly patient with him. By day three he could stand unaided, although still very wobbly. Now Alan is full of beans! You would never know he had ever had a problem. Some babies just need a little more time! Here are some photos from the start to now. Alan isn't the easiest model to photograph 🤣

We would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Even a 1kg donation will make such a difference in improving our grazing land. We will be purchasing 100kg of seed in the next month, so if you would like to and are able to we really would appreciate your donation. You are able to do this via our website shop or via our shop payment system. ☺

Part of our plan for Weylands Farm is to improve the fields to benefit not just our animals, but the soil and wider enironment too. We always knew this would be a dry farm (just maybe not as dry as this year!) and we intend to grow forage suitable for the light land here. One crop is Lucerne, which we have grown in the past and the seed for a field here arrived today.
We would also like to sow a Herbal ley on other fields, a mix of species of grasses, clovers, legume and herbs and here's where we need some help. We have added a product to our online store where those that would like to can buy us a kilo (or more, if you wish) of seed to be planted on the farm. If you would rather not pay online, we have it as a product on the shop tablet too. We need 100kgs for our first field and we hope that it will make us more resilient to drier weather in future summers. Long term followers will remember we grew this before too, and it was very successful.
Any help to achieve this would be hugely appreciated by us.

Another new arrival this morning. This time a pure Jersey bull calf. Mum Alice is doing well, unfortunately baby 'Alan' is a bit slow to stand but has a tummy full of milk from a bottle, hopefully he will strengthen up over the next few days.

Beef has also arrived back from the butcher's this morning, so the shop fridge is once again full. Beef boxes are also here ready for those who have ordered to collect.

And unusually for a Wednesday, we still have milk in the vending machine!
