Sometimes all it takes is an ordinary shopping bag and the trust of small shop owner to take products you didn’t pay for 💔
Someone came into the shop on Tuesday who appeared to be genuinely browsing, and even purchased some items. They were friendly and polite. Yet, whilst I was busy serving a regular customer, they were putting items in their bag without paying for them. This wasn’t an honest mistake, it was very deliberate.
Thankfully we have clear CCTV footage which has been reported and sent to the police.
If the person responsible sees this and wants to do the right thing, they can either pay for the items they took or return them.
What hurts most isn't the monetary value of the stock. It's the complete disregard for a small business and the people who work hard every day to keep it going.
Shoplifting isn't victimless. Behind every small business are ordinary people who work incredibly hard, often for a small income. We don’t want to feel like everyone who walks through the door is a potential thief, we want our customers to feel welcomed and trusted.
