Fionas Farmhouse Kitchen My story began in a derelict farmhouse we restored while living in a caravan. We built a smallholding, raised our children, opened a caravan site & baking shed.

Since moving we are now surrounded by sheep, hills & stunning waterfalls in the Dales .

Well, what a day! 🎺🍻❤️

A Brass Band Charity Walk raising vital funds for Cancer Research… involving a brass band, a lovely bunch of people and FOUR pubs. What could possibly go wrong?! 😂

We started at The Buck, headed down to The Bridge, then made our way back via The Bull and finally The Kings Arms — all accompanied by plenty of music by our very talented brass band on the back of a trailer!🎺❤️

And just when I thought my only job was walking and keeping up with everyone, I somehow ended up as traffic warden for the afternoon! 😂✋🚗
Apparently I’m a woman of many talents!

Days like this remind you just how lucky we are to live in such an amazing community. Everyone mucking in, having a laugh and, most importantly, raising money for a cause that touches so many lives. ❤️

A fabulous day from start to finish… although I’m not sure I’ll be adding traffic management to my CV just yet! 😂🎺🍻

Well, France just keeps on giving… 🇫🇷❤️

After spending a lovely time with Martin and the family in southwest France, I travelled down south for a week with two of my gorgeous friends while Martin headed home.

Or so I thought… 😂

After a fabulous week with the girls, I waved them goodbye at the airport — completely unaware that Martin was flying back out to surprise me for my upcoming birthday! 🥰🎂❤️

We hired a car for the week and set off exploring some absolutely gorgeous places.

First up was Mougins — beautiful old stone buildings, winding streets, restaurants and art everywhere. 🎨 Picasso spent the final years of his life here and you can certainly feel its artistic history. We stayed as the sun went down over the hills and it was just magical. 🌅

Then Valbonne, with its lovely old streets and beautiful Place des Arcades — the perfect spot to wander, stop for a drink and soak up the atmosphere. ❤️

And finally Saint-Paul-de-Vence, another stunning medieval hilltop village surrounded by old ramparts, with cobbled streets, galleries and sculptures around every corner. We even passed the famous La Colombe d’Or, with its incredible artistic history. 🎨

Lots of wandering, exploring, eating, drinking and taking it all in over the week — exactly how France should be! 🇫🇷🥂

What a lovely way to finish an amazing few weeks away and what an unexpected birthday surprise. ❤️

Martin really did play a blinder with this one… although my actual birthday hasn’t arrived yet, so no pressure, Martin! 😂🎂❤️

🇫🇷 A week away with the girls… and absolutely NO sitting still! 😂🍷

What a week in beautiful Villefranche-sur-Mer with Kirsty & Janice ❤️

Busy, busy, BUSY… apparently none of us got the memo that a girls’ holiday is supposed to involve lying on a beach! 😂

☀️ We walked all the way to Nice along the most beautiful coastal path, in the blazing sunshine. Thank goodness we all had the sense to wear trainers because there were steps, cliff-edge walkways and MILES and MILES of coastal paths! 😅

🥾 Then we walked up to Èze — yes, UP being the important word here 😂 — once again in glorious sunshine. And because clearly we hadn’t walked enough, we managed to get ourselves lost in the Exotic Gardens too! 🌵😂 Thankfully, they have some rather beautiful benches which were VERY well received by this point!

🇲🇨 Then it was Monaco… we walked the Grand Prix track, climbed all the way up to the Palace, had a swim in the fabulous open-air swimming pool 🏊🏼‍♀️ and, of course, had to have a little look around the famous Casino! 🎰✨

We even managed to find a Monaco charity shop! 😂 Although with €5,000 Chanel handbags reduced to the bargain price of €3,000, I decided to leave them for someone else… what a snip! 🤣👜

🍷 Plenty of gorgeous food and w**e was consumed to make up for all those miles, obviously!

We did manage some swimming 🏊🏼‍♀️… at the beach although even that somehow turned into a workout when I got involved. 😂

No lazy days on the beach whatsoever! That will have to be saved for next time… although knowing us, I’m not convinced! 🤣

An absolutely fantastic week with lots of laughs, miles walked, food eaten, w**e drunk and brilliant memories made. ❤️

Thank you so much Kirsty & Janice for organising it all. I loved every minute and can’t wait until we do it all again.

🇫🇷 A DAY OUT IN MONTMORILLON… AKA TRYING NOT TO MELT 😂☀️

Another little French adventure today, this time to beautiful Montmorillon – La Cité de l’Écrit et des Métiers du Livre. 📚🇫🇷

Basically, a whole town with a passion for books… old bookshops, beautiful medieval buildings, little cobbled streets, fascinating old schoolrooms and the river running right through it. Absolutely gorgeous. ❤️

The idea was to have a leisurely wander around, soaking up a bit of French history and culture.

The reality was more along the lines of…

“Ooooh look at that!”
“That’s beautiful!”
“Quick… there’s some SHADE!” 🥵😂

It is absolutely BOILING here! ☀️

We did manage to drag ourselves away from the shady bits long enough to explore the old medieval quarter, have a nosy in the bookshops and admire some of the amazing buildings. I particularly loved the old schoolroom — although I’m fairly sure I’d have been the child staring out of the window rather than concentrating. 😂

Such a lovely place though, and definitely one of those days where you just wander, take far too many photos and wonder why everything somehow looks prettier in France. 🇫🇷❤️

Books, history, sunshine, gorgeous scenery… and approximately 47 stops in the shade. 😂☀️📚

🥾🍻 WHEN A 16-MILE CHARITY WALK TURNS INTO AN 8-MILE PUB CRAWL… 😂

We had all the family up and were fully prepared for our 16-mile Cancer Research charity walk… 💗

Then we saw the weather forecast. 🌧️💨😳

So unfortunately the official walk had to be postponed until 3rd October.

Of course, having got everyone together, we couldn’t possibly just sit around doing nothing… so Plan B was quickly hatched! 🤣

🥾 16 miles became 8 miles
🍻 Refreshment stops became a few pubs
🌧️ And the horrendous weather we were avoiding… NEVER ACTUALLY TURNED UP! 😂🙄

In fact, it stayed surprisingly good all day! Typical!!

So technically we may have only completed half the distance and possibly taken hydration a little too seriously 🍺🤣… but we had such a brilliant day.

It was just lovely having everyone together, walking, chatting, laughing and generally putting the world to rights. ❤️

Back home, everyone mucked in and we had loads of gorgeous food, mainly cooked by the gang — which, quite frankly, might have been my favourite part! 😂👏

So the proper 16-mile Cancer Research challenge is still to come on 3rd October… which means we haven’t got away with it just yet! 😳🥾😂

For now though, I’d say an 8-mile family walk via a few pubs, followed by lots of food was a pretty successful Plan B! 🥰

💕 CATCH-UP DAY! 💕

I seem to have reached that stage in life where there are never quite enough days in the week to catch up with all the lovely people I want to see! 😂

So, as I’m through to Yarm once a week with Miles for our French lessons with the amazing Suzanne 🇫🇷, I’m making the most of it… although at this rate my feet don’t touch the ground from the minute I arrive until the minute I leave! 🤣

Today it was the turn of my gorgeous friend Andrea ❤️

A lovely walk around Cod Beck — which obviously involved far more talking than serious walking 😂 — followed by lunch at .

Fresh air, food, lots of catching up and putting the world to rights… just what was needed. 🥰

At this rate I’m going to need a waiting list for my Yarm days! 😂❤️

🌧️🎶 A WET & WILD DAY AT MUKER SHOW! 🎶🌧️

Well… Muker Show certainly gave us the full Dales experience this week! 😂

A very wet and wild day at the show meant there was only one sensible thing to do afterwards… head to the Farmers Arms in Muker to dry off for the obligatory hour! 🍻

Eventually we thought we really ought to make a move and get ourselves home…

Only to discover we physically couldn’t leave the pub! 😂

Some sort of flash-mob-style crowd had completely surrounded the place and a right old sing-song was in full swing! 🎶🍺

So what could we do?!

Join the band & sing along …… two hours later, after plenty of lovely songs , laughing and chatting with various locals, we finally managed to escape and make our way back to the car park.

And would you believe it…

☀️ THE SUN WAS OUT! ☀️

And ours was one of just TWO cars left in the entire car park! 😂😂

From absolutely soaked at Muker Show to an unexpected lock-in and a Dales sing-song…

🐑 A PROPER DALES DAY OUT! 🐑

We had such a lovely family day out at Reeth Show — and even the weather decided to behave for us! ☀️

There’s something rather special about a good old-fashioned Dales agricultural shows. Tractors, livestock, horses, local stalls, plenty of food, familiar faces and just that wonderful buzz of everyone coming together. ❤️

After all the years we spent with our own smallholding, I think I’ll always have a soft spot for days like this. There’s something about wandering around a show field that feels very familiar! 😂🐑🚜

But the best bit was simply having the family together. As life changes and everyone gets busier, I’m appreciating these days more and more — no big plans, just sunshine, lots of wandering, plenty of chatting and enjoying being together.

A very lovely day in our little corner of Yorkshire. 💚

And judging by some of the things for sale… I may have come home with a few 😂🦌
