A big thank you to Angus, Kerry, Robert and Bronwyn Gowthorpe of Approach Farm Salers for advertising in the 2026 Salers Breed Journal.

The Approach Farm team have had a good run on the Yorkshire show circuit this summer.

At the Great Yorkshire Show, Approach Farm Odette won the cow class and went on to stand Reserve Female Champion, while Approach Farm Utopia was third in her class and Approach Farm Vyvyan took third in the junior bulls.
A week later at Driffield, they had a clean sweep of the Any Other Continental classes. Odette took the Overall Championship, Utopia stood Reserve, and Vyvyan completed the three class wins. Then it was Utopia’s turn at Ryedale, winning her class and going on to take the Overall Any Other Continental Championship. Odette won the cow class and full sisters Utopia and Vanessa teamed up to win the pairs.

Bronwyn has had a pretty good summer herself. She was awarded the Stockman’s Progressive Shield at the Great Yorkshire Show and at Ryedale won her young handlers class with Approach Farm Vanessa before being crowned Champion Beef Young Handler.

🙏Thank you to the whole Approach Farm family for supporting the Journal, getting Salers out around the shows and encouraging the next generation to get stuck in too.

📣Please give their advert a share and help us give our Journal advertisers as much publicity as we can. They support us, so let’s support them.

On Monday afternoon we delivered 5 pedigree heifers to a returning customer, Edward Bates in Lincolnshire. The heifers are in calf to a mixture of sires, some by the AI sires Beguin and Marechal and others to our stock bull Cuil Teletubbie. While we were at Edward's he welcomed us to see his cattle. We were pleased to see that previous heifers we had sold to Edward suited his system, producing efficient commercial and pedigree progeny, reflecting the maternal, easy-calving and well-tempered traits of the breed. We look forward to seeing more of their progeny in the future, and we wish Edward the best of luck with them.

In the video below, the first 3 heifers to leave the trailer are AF Viona, AF Valentine and AF Verbena, the next 2 heifers to leave the trailer are AF Vera and AF Vodka.

Cows just moved this morning, plenty of grass for them for a bit yet, but could do with a drop of 🌧 soon! Cuil Teletubbie will be coming out this week.
