If you'll excuse a brief bit of tooting our own trumpet, here are some recent reviews of our tours - which also won a Travellers' Choice award again this year from TripAdvisor, putting them in the top 10% of attractions globally.

The tours run on Wednesdays at 2pm and Saturdays at 1pm and 3:30pm. They take about 2 hours all in, and include a tour of our production building and cask storage, exploring how the gins and whiskies are made, and then a tasting of the full range (normally about 6 spirits). There are takeaway samples for the poor designated drivers too!

Mixing it up a bit.

Zoë was over in France earlier this month to help out with the grape harvest at Le Pourrada vineyard (Dordogne vineyard) near Bergerac in the Dordogne. We're obviously spirits people at heart, but our geekery extends to any form of alcohol production. And especially one where we can have the full, hands-on experience. Even if it starts at 5:30 in the morning, in the dark.

There was a lot in common with how we do things at Cooper King; small operation, family-run, all hands on deck. And a delicious final product to be enjoyed at the end of a hard day's work. We're just jealous that they'll get to drink the rosé we were pressing in about 6 months' time, whilst we have to wait at least 3 years until ours is ready!

As you may have picked up on, we're a bunch of foodies here at the distillery. Delicious whisky, gin, coffee, bread, honey, cheese, Will's beef jerky - we're passionate about it all. So it's quite hard not to lose our cool when we get to work with obscenely talented chefs.

We've been working with Neil Bentinck and the team at Skosh since 2018 now, and it's always a blast.

The final result is a brand new gin and vodka; the Skosh Sansho and Citrus Gin and the Skosh Green Chilli and Ginger Vodka. And they're available to buy on our website now, and from Skosh too - so pop in and treat yourself to the perfect aperitif before a meal that will blow your mind.

Sansho & Citrus Gin
Tasting notes: sansho peppercorn, Thai basil, lime leaf, ginger and orange peel are beautifully layered to create a deliciously refreshing gin.

Green Chilli & Ginger Vodka
Tasting notes: fresh green chilli, root ginger and a touch of green peppercorn are cold-distilled to create a vivid and versatile vodka.

Are you in a whisky club?

This year we've been lucky enough to be invited along to quite a few whisky clubs to host a tasting. Every single one has been a blast; we talk way too much, get drawn into the real deep-dive details, and always bring a little something unusual from the back of the cupboard. People have been able to try whiskies that sold out years ago, or cask samples that have never been released.

We couldn't think of a better way to pass an evening. If you've been to the races at York this summer you might have spotted the Cooper King & Fairfax Distilleries cocktail bar there. The brilliant team at the racecourse have been serving Berry Spritzes, Old Fashioneds, Spiced Apple Martinis and Bloody Marys at an astonishing rate.

It's the biggest meet of the year this week, the Ebor Festival, and we are READY! So if you're heading that way, come and say hi. We can't guarantee you any luck with the racing, but the delicious cocktails we've got covered.

The barley harvest is done, earlier than usual thanks to this insanely un-British-Summer weather. Driving around the countryside near us recently has been a non-stop tractor and combine harvester parade. That's exciting at the best of times, but knowing that some of that barley will shortly be coming our way to turn into whisky definitely adds an extra layer to proceedings.

Our maltsters, Thomas Fawcett & Sons, have been out overseeing the harvest too and sent us some photos of the Yorkshire-grown Maris Otter that will imminently be floor malted and then sent to us. Bread is great, and we're big fans of beer too, but there's something about turning barley into whisky that is just alchemy.

Great selection of the freshest of the fresh beer, and a fair few Cooper King treats in there too. Including a few bottles of the fabled, long-gone Port-Bound single malt whisky...
