Some lovely varied colours of pollen coming in today - despite their apparently clumsy landings when viewed in slow motion!

4 weeks on from my post of the crimson clover….☘️

This is the same field now covered with tall & willowy yellow sweet clover in full bloom with some of the short white clover around the edges of the field.

A fabulous source of nectar for the bees while there’s not much else around right now 😊 🐝 🧡

I’m really looking forward to the honey harvest that we get later in the year 🍯

All set up at Askern Gala… The weather is fairing up and I have a view of the lake and all of the beautiful baby birds for the day 🥺 💕

Come and try some honey 🍯 😀 🐝

🇬🇧🍯 Did you know that from 14 June 2026, honey labels must tell you much more about where your honey actually comes from?

New UK labelling rules, based on the EU’s “Breakfast Directive”, are being introduced to help tackle food fraud, improve transparency and support British beekeepers 🐝

Until now imported honey blends could simply be labelled as a “blend of EU and non-EU honeys”, giving consumers very little information about the product they were buying 🤔

Under the new rules, honey blends must clearly list the countries of origin and the percentage contribution from each country, making it much easier to see exactly what’s in the jar 🍯

As for our honey? It’s simple…

🇬🇧 100% British honey
🐝 Produced by our bees
🍯 Bottled and labelled by us
📍 Enjoyed anywhere!

Knowing where your food comes from matters, and we’re proud to put our local provenance front and centre on every jar.

Have you checked the country of origin on your honey recently? Let us know what your labels say in the comments!

Hive checks had to be done in short bursts between the showers yesterday! ☔️

You don’t have to look at each frame in detail every inspection or find your queen (even though it is lovely when you do🙂)…

If the bees are calm, you see eggs and no queen cells then you can close up and on to the next one - and hope for better weather next week!! 🌦️

🌿 🐝 You might remember me talking about No Mow May a few weeks ago? This was the campaign encouraging people to leave their lawns a little longer so wildflowers can bloom and provide food for pollinators. 🦋

Well, this was one suggestion I made that my other half fully supported… no debate, no negotiation, no excuses! 😂

The problem now? We’re over a week into June and I’m struggling to convince him that it’s time to get the mower back out! 😳 🌱

We definitely did our bit for the bees and other pollinators… but tackling this jungle is going to take a mammoth effort! 🥵 🤣

Have you managed to mow yet, or is your garden also enjoying an extended No Mow May? 🫣
