Testimony of a trainee, Yahya Sowe
"Believe in yourself. Believe in the skills God has given you. And never allow distractions to make you doubt the journey you are on.

I am who I am today because I chose to believe in myself even when the journey was difficult. There were moments when things did not make sense, moments when I had very little support, and moments when giving up would have been easier.

But I refused to be distracted.

I kept learning.
I kept pushing.
I kept believing.
And most importantly, I kept trusting God.

Today, I am deeply grateful to Almighty Allah for giving me the opportunity to serve as a facilitator for the Class at the just-concluded First Edition of the WEST COAST REGION RED CROSS BRANCH Ubuntu Camp 2026.

Standing in front of young volunteers and sharing the knowledge, skills, and experiences I have gained over the years was not just another assignment for me. It was a moment of reflection.

I remembered where I started. I remembered the struggles. I remembered the people who believed in me when I was still trying to find my way.

My sincere appreciation goes to the Coast Region Red Cross executives, from the Branch Officer to every person who contributed to making this camp a success. Thank you for trusting me with the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with these young volunteers.

Special appreciation goes to my boss, Abdou Sula Bojang

You did more than train me you helped shape me. You shared your knowledge, gave me the skills, and helped me discover the potential within myself. Today, I proudly carry the lessons you taught me.

And there is one person I can never forget.

A man who stood beside me when I was pursuing a dream that many people could not see. A man who encouraged me when things were difficult, motivated me when I needed strength, and supported me when I had very little."

Mr. Babucarr Sambou former president of Peace Ambassadors The Gambia and Head of Relations Office at UEG is a pool of ocean of knowledge. He brought practical examples of how people made it here in the Gambia because of their mindset. He therefore encouraged trainees to have the belief in the knowledge they acquired.

She's a trained farmer from the School of Agriculture, The Gambia College. She's a processor and an entrepreneur as well.

Our iron lady, Sirreh Darboe, Operational Manager at Yep Africa, who is entrepreneurial by mindset and practice took the audience through some important themes as a people. She tasked the trainees on how much quantity and quality we consumed will depend on what they. This is because, most countries who feed on healthy food depend on their own.

Uncle Musa Jarra as fondly known by many is a veteran in the youth space and currently serve as the Youth Coordinator of WCR. He's one of the support pillars of Jamaa's management.
As he poured wisdom, he reminded the trainees about the importance of translating knowledge into practice.
