Lismore farm, Elgin.

From the farthest corner of the vineyard, above the Chardonnay blocks, the landscape reveals its full beauty. Rolling hills covered with vines blend seamlessly into dramatic mountain peaks, creating a breathtaking view that captures the essence of the land.

Here, nature is more than just a backdrop—it is part of the story behind every grape and every bottle. The unique terroir, climate, and rugged terrain work together to shape the character and quality found in every sip.

Syrah sneak pic

This is one of Gabriëlskloof’s youngest vineyards on stake vines, planted in 2024. It is located right in front of their cellar, on beautiful shale soils.
The first real harvest will be in 2027. The potential of the vineyard is massive and very exciting!!

Syrah Block 11

Reyneke’s favourite vineyard on the farm is Block 11 Syrah. This is a young, stock-by-paaljie planting, just five years old, and sitting at the highest elevation of our Syrah blocks. They harvested only its second crop this year, producing an extremely limited volume of around 500 litres – but the intensity and concentration from this site have been remarkable. Even a small portion blended into the Estate Syrah makes a noticeable impact on the wine’s depth and structure.

The block is surrounded by indigenous fynbos as part of their rewilding programme, creating a natural buffer around the vines and encouraging biodiversity. From Block 11 you look straight over the cellar and the rest of the farm, with sweeping views of False Bay. On clear days, you can even see the top of Table Mountain in the distance – a special place that truly captures the energy and character of the site.

Block 107

This is the lowest point on the farm, a former cattle pasture with clay soils that once waterlogged in winter. Today it produces 80–90% of the fruit in the renowned Paul Sauer blend. Cool air from the Simonsberg collects here on summer nights, concentrating the berries after warm days.
What was once overlooked as the lesser ground turned out to be the most powerful.

Some things take time to reveal themselves.

Cinema

This is Peter-Allan’s favourite Pinot vineyard to work with as it is delivers incredible quality every year.

Scenes from a movie based on the life of Napoleon were shot on the Cinéma site the year before vineyards were introduced, which gave this site its name.

The Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge is famous for its ability to produce fruit to rival that of Grand Cru sites in Burgundy.
The Cinema vineyard, planted in 2009, was meticulously designed to produce the highest quality Pinot Noir, with disease-free Dijon clones planted in high density (11 000 vines on 1.6 Ha), to create healthy competition for the vines. The South East-facing slopes welcome cool breezes from Walker Bay which, complemented by 300m of altitude and shade from the Babylon’s Toren mountain, make conditions ideal for the grape. The site’s proximity to the ocean adds a subtle salinity to the clay and shale soils.

Werfdans

Cinsault was the first grape planted by the French in South Africa 350 years ago.
Father of Pinotage, untamed and over productive, it played a secondary role in winemaking, mostly used in blends.

Nested in a small corner of Swartland, Darling is the most proximate area to the ocean overlooking its raging waters.

During the summer, this dusty, windy and yellow landscape turns your sight away. In the winter, it transforms into this dancer of color and dust, continually changing, surrounded by canola and wheat fields.
Ian Naudé was the only one who understood the vineyard’s potential and connected to it. He gave this vineyard a chance.
For him now, it is a true paradise.

Spring comes with Pink!

Kanonkop Kadette Pinotage Rosè.
Light salmon-pink in colour. Beautiful aromas with hints of blackcurrant,
strawberry and rose petal. The fresh, medium bodied palate is well supported
by an abundance of fruit and a juicy, lingering acidity. Good length and
complexity makes it a perfect wine for summer foods and a good fit for any
occasion. Ideally served chilled between 8 - 10˚C.

Blends that balance.
Soutbos, ’ signature fusion of Chenin Blanc and Colombard, hails from the West Coast’s sandy terrain.

Magdalena combines 90% old vine Swartland and Franschhoek Semillon with a dash of Sauvignon Blanc, nurtured by Decomposed Granite, Table Mountain Sandstone, and Bokkeveld Shales.

Cuvée Cinema: Before a single vine was planted, the site was used to shoot scenes from a Napoleon movie. That moment stuck — and when the vineyard was later established, the name “Cinéma” stayed. It became one of their most precise, purpose-built vineyards, planted with Dijon clones at high density to force competition and quality.
Le Luc is named after the winemakers’ son. It’s basically a family wine — not a marketing story, a real one. Everything they do is slow, deliberate, and personal. The vineyard sits about 5 km from the Atlantic Ocean with constant cooling influence. This is not a generous place. It’s windy, exposed, and relatively cold, which is exactly why they chose it.
Pinot Noir at its finest !
